I am so angry! Need to vent...

Would it be worthwhile to voice these concerns to TPTB at your school? I would be frustrated, also. Hang in there, you'll do fine!

If there were mistakes on those two questions, then you didn't really get them right I'm sorry to hear you failed, but I think you're stuck with it, it's the problem with being right on the cusp of a grade.

Hi guys! I don't post very often, but I really need to scream right now! I am in an ADN program in the second semester. We had our first test last Friday 2/04. I passed the test. Then on Friday 2/11, the instructors announced in class that they had made a mistake on two questions, and they had been removed from the test. Now I have failed the test. The grades were re-calculated based on fewer questions, and the ones they removed I had right. I can't believe they have the right to give us a grade, and then take it away. I only failed by about 1 point, but it still makes me really angry.

When instructors throw out questions, it is usually to benefit, not penalize, the students. Have you discussed the situation with your instructor?

On a recent test, where an instructor threw out three questions (because more than half of the class missed them), one of my classmates indicated that everyone should get 3 added points, whether they missed the questions or not--otherwise the people who got the question right were penalized.

I think disorganization is the norm in nursing school. I'm usually shocked when the instructors actually are organized. :chuckle

Why were the questions thrown out? Was it due to the way they were worded, or because the information hadnt been covered yet? Regardless if you were careful enough to answer the question correctly as the instructor that made up the test saw it you shouldnt be affected by it.

You need to go argue your case just as whoever argued the case to throw the question out did. You have as much riding on it as they do.

True,, the world isnt fair, but fair is one thing,, being just is another. If you got those questions right, your grade shouldnt be affected. So someone else had to accept a grade with 2 less questions on it so their score per question wasnt equal to yours,, not your problem, they were the ones complaining in the first place about the questions and asking they be removed.

Stand up and make your case.

My program loves to do that. Especially if someone argues a question and the instrucor changes their mind. Which really sucks because instead of giving those of us it affected the point, they like to throw out the question. At least it's nice to know we aren't the only ones it happens to.

Well that's the instructors' mistakes, and they should leave the grades alone. I don't think it's right to give someone a grade, then reneg(sp) on it because of their OWN error.

At my school, when a question is thrown out, it does not count against those who go it right. They just give the points to those that missed the question.I think that is the only fair way to handle the situation. My nursing school is generally quite good about these things, and I am shocked at a lot of the things I hear on this board. I am thankful for the school I go to :balloons:
