I know that sounds a little crazy, but for me, chem is the one class that truly terrifies me!!! I have put it off and done all my other science classes and received A's in all of them, but for some reason facing chem is really scaring me. Maybe it's because I have heard so many horror stories or maybe it's all the math (not my favorite subject and I've been out of school since 2000!). The one thing I do know is that nursing is my calling and I can't let one stupid 4 credit hour class stand in my way. Any advice or calming thoughts? lol

My advice is to stop listening to negative stories. If I listened to negative things, I wouldn't have taken Micro, Chem, A & P, and Statistics. While I didn't enjoy Chemistry, it wasn't hard enough for me to give up nursing over it. Take it one day at a time, and study just like you did with your other classes. Good Luck!
Haha yeah, I have tried to turn my ear but sometimes you can't help but be a little curious! I'm sure it wont be as bad as I'm thinking.... lol
Thanks for the support!:heartbeat

Chem freaks me out too! I will be taking it in the fall. I have been out of school for a while also, but my highschool chemistry mark still haunts me. If I could only pull a C- in highschool chemistry, how the heck am I gonna surivive college level chemistry??!! I have to maintain at least a B average to get into the BScN program I know that I am much more mature and focused now but still......
At least you had chem in HS!!! Stupid me never took it..... I have no idea what to expect but I just keep hearing "algebra...algebra....algebra" which I DID take and didn't like so much.... lol This is going to be an interesting summer!!!!

No calming thoughts from my end, just wanted to say I know exactly how you feel!I'm putting Chemistry off for as long as possible (fall semester) and I'm terrified. I tried it in 2003 at university when I was doing a different major and I lasted all of 2 months before I withdrew because I was so far behind due to confusion that the tutor couldn't even save me! Never took it in high school either, I avoided it like the plague and took physics and biology!
5 years later I need to take it again and I'm so nervous. Luckily my now husband is a PhD chemist...hopefully that's my godsend? LOL.
Good luck!

I was scared to death of it too. I had barely passed it in high school. I got a great professor though. I studied my behind off and passed with a high C. A C in lecture and B in lab. It transfers and will have to work for me!

If it makes you feel better, my program requires EIGHT credits of chem. I was scared to death because I am not a good math student. But...I got a B in the first and an A- in the second class. Take really good notes, go to every class, and ask the professor for help. Buddy up with someone good in lab, too.

I am also taking Chemistry in the fall, and the closer it gets the more I want to drop the class. I did okay in Algebra and I know it has a lot to do with that, but I feel very uneasy about the course. I guess we just have to endure the pain, lol. I really enjoyed my other science courses, so maybe this will turn out to be one that I love!

I learned that with Chemistry the best thing to do is study study study!!! I was SO petrified of this class, but my dream of being a nurse and persuing my passion just gave me the strength I needed to get thru the class. I got a C, but it wasnt from lack of trying, LOL
Ouch, a C?
