I will be offered a job TOMORROW!!!!! I am planning to work on my home floor that I work on as a tech now....figured that I would get the best training being with people that I understand, staff I can trust, knowing who to watch out for, and knowing roughly the procedures/protcols for the general cases we get.....I feel relieved, knowing that I am finally on the way with the first job!!!

Now all I need to do is get through the capstone this week, pass exit on Friday and get ready to graduate!!!!

PS...I need some thoughts that my friend is offered the other position, cause how cool is that to work with one of your cool friends! and the manager goes on friday..."I think you'll be happy......" so cool beans!

Congrats! I am a former tech, current Nurse Extern, and soon to be a RN. I am hoping to be hired by my unit as well if all goes well this summer. In any case, Daytonite made some good points and I am gad you had a chance to sit down with your unit. However, I have to reiterate Daytonite's concerns....

When I become a Nurse Extern I had a rough time initially. Some techs with whom I thought were my friends snapped at me in front of other staff, talk about me behind my back, and made my life a living nightmare my first month. When I politely asked them for help, I was told that I "know how to do it.." or "Why can't you do it yourself?" or "I'm busy..." Notice I stated that I am not a Nurse yet....???? :uhoh21: So, I think it is nice you had your talk with your "friends" but being a nurse will be different.

They will assume things like you are trying to pawn things off on them when you are actually too busy to do the things that you must delegate!!! They don't know because they are not doing your job. In addition, unlike them, you will have a new broader perspective on things whereas they will only see their tech job duties and responsibilities.

On a more positive note, if you can politely confront them by pulling them aside and discussing situations as they arise (this is what I did), you will be able to calm the waters a bit. Some people continue to be angry/jealous because they are negative people! Most mature people with whom I work are able to understand my situation and concerns and have helped me out after we talked.

Basically, what I am trying to say is that your transition as a nurse will not be easy and part of the reason will be your so-called tech friends. However, if you are successful in nipping things in the bud when they arise, you may be able to turn your New Graduate experience into something special, unless the nurses are out to bury you.... That is an entirely new thread. GL!!! :D

congrats on making it to the end.. finally! i am so happy that i am done too!

i have seen that situ happen a few times, but you may need to just stand up for yourself. you have the right approach and i am sure it will take time. it is resentment, and they will have to just learn, ya know?
