So i just found out yesterday that i passed nclex and is now RN it's the best feeling ever. To finally get that load off of my shoulder. Sleepless nights finally over. Thank God!
First take:
I took my first exam mid December. I used Saunders book and the nclex mastery app. I was able to finish the whole book for 5 months. I was working 4x/week so basically i just read it whenever I'm off from work. Two weeks before my exam i cut my work down to 3x/week. Testing day: I finished the exam for about 5 hours and it was exhausting. I remember i was just answering the questions for the heck of it, i just want to get it all done, it stopped around 230ish questions. Right when i went out on the testing center i knew that i failed but still hoping for some kind'a miracle to happen but i guess if you don't deserve it, you won't get it. God sees your handwork and i know i never gave justice on how i should prepare for nclex
When i went to check the quick result and saw that i failed it was devastating. I told myself, its your fault, "you should've have", and a lot of "what ifs". I decided to quit on my job. I gave myself about 2 weeks to freshen up and forget about books and anything about nclex. Right when i felt comfortable i looked up resources and strategies on how to pass my second take. I promised myself i will do everything that i can to pass this test, i will beat this dreaded nclex. I did a lot of positive self talk.
Second take:
So i studied for about six weeks. I planned my study schedule and plot it to a calendar.
>I first used Hurst to solidify my content for about two weeks. This is a great online review, i just listen to it anywhere and everywhere. Even when i wash dishes or do some chores at home i listen to it instead of listening to music. I cannot do the reading anymore, i guess Saunders book is too much for me. I got an average of about 71-85 out of 125q on hurst q banks
>Lacharity for about a week, this book is great! I needed this for delegation which i didn't know is a big deal here because I'm a foreign grad. I scored about 70%-80%
>I then used Uworld for the remaining weeks, this is the bomb! The questions are very hard (maybe just for me because Saunders had easy questions) but believe me it will train your brain to critically think and the rationales are well written. I suggest to do the max questions and timed mode, that's what helped me because it's like taking the actual exam though i know you can't wait to know the answers right away, right? My total average was 55%. Do not get caught up with your score, please read the rationales really really well, understand the answer whether you got it right or wrong.
>About 5 days before my exam, before i go to bed i read the 35 page guide that is floating around here, it's some good random facts and mnemonics. The day before my exam i know some says do not study, but i just can't stand not to, so i chose some of my weaknesses topic in hurst and re listen to it and also review important lab values.
Examination day:
I only had about four hours of sleep, that anxiety is getting into my nerves, i just pray and pray and pray to God to help me stay calm. TRUST, BELIEVE and have FAITH. I prayed and asked him to give me 75 questions and yes he did. To my delight it felt like the questions were easy and i felt confident answering the test questions. I had a lot of Sata(around 20ish), exhibit(around 5), calculation maybe 2 and the rest prio and delegation questions. I went out on the testing center very happy(i already kinda felt like i passed) and just had tears of joy! :)
i owe to him(God) my success. I prayed everyday and not just asked him to help me, don't forget to thank him for all the blessings you have. This examination will not crushed you it will help you learn. Good luck and God bless future RN's
Philippians 4:6 - Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done."

Congratulations on your success, the product of your difficult studying endeavor. As Shakespeare said it, "Take pains. Be perfect."
By the way, how many questions did you do in UWorld Qbank?
I agree, the rationales are hard. The questions are like case presentations which forces critical thinking. Love it so much, but DAMN! Reading, learning, typing notes and memorizing the rationales is definitely labor intensive.

I did 75 at a time, thats the max you can do each set and maybe 150q/day. I was able to finished all the questions for about 2 weeks. I guess total question was 1700.

I can't say enough about uWorld. Same exact look and format as the NCLEX. Got in, sat down, and it was just like I was back in my room studying. If I didn't know a question, no sweat, I was used to scoring in the 55-60% range with uWorld. Finished in 75 questions in just over an hour.
Exactly, same feels! totally recommend it

Greetings, to my fellow classmates and nursing students.... You can and will pass the NCLEX exam, I promise... here are my secrets to my success-
I won a free Kaplan test prep course but landed up deciding in the second day that it simply was not for me or my learning style and so I bailed! My RN school paid the Hurst to come to our school for three days literally the day after graduation; December 15, 2015 and sit in class for 8 hours but at that point I was so fried, my mind was definitely not focused on school, nor did I even care! For me; I just needed to have a stress free holiday, detox, unwind, and attempt to recapture the meaning of fun†once again. And so that's exactly what I did; allowed myself to have some guilt free time off!
Fast forward…- I landed up registering for the February 17, 2016 test in Pasadena. I had several months off and was ready to go back into school mode. I gave myself exactly three weeks to study. Literally I put my life (AKA: motherhood, job, and social life) on hold and became a robot with study block sessions 8:00-noon (gym, lunch) 2:00-6:00pm and review 9:00-10:00pm….
Let me remind you… you have graduated from nursing school, you have won 2/3 of the battle already! If you are like me, a student that has to work exceptionally hard at achieving success then you already have the secret weapon. Your stamina and drive will propel you to do well. After much research and trial and error, I realized that UWORLD†(1900 questions) and the NCSBN site was by far the best test prep. The only other book I used was Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment by Linda A. LaCharity and only got through page 70. In addition; I organized all my notes by body systems and let me tell you; I wrote a plethora of notes!!
To make a long story short… I passed with 75 questions and received my results two days later. Honestly; I felt that the test was easy, yes I actually said it; EASY!! UWORLD was by far my favorite site and the most in depth with content knowledge and review. I walked out of the exam feeling elated and free as I knew I had passed. - It was the best crash course I have ever taken and now clearly understand the language of Nursing. In addition, I feel more empowered to conquer my new found career with the knowledge I have recaptured and my understanding of the various disease states in dept.
I believe in all of you, you can do this! Good luck future RN's of America! My prayers are with you on test day!

Hi,
I thank you for providing such a detailed account of what you did. I thank you for the transparency and boldness to glorify Christ through this post. This has encouraged me. I am 5 weeks away from my exam and my grades on Uworld aren't the best. But I will pray daily, and follow some of the tips you provided.
God bless you !
