Hurst Review

I am a student nurse that will be graduating this May. My class is planning on hiring the Hurst Review for NCLEX. I am wondering if it is worth the time and money. Does any one have an opinion as to whether or not it would be worthwhile?

My class did the same and I opted not to take it. Those that did said it was helpful, but that it did seem to focus on a lot of information that if you're doing well in nursing school is totally refresher stuff...like going over electrolytes, fluid status, body systems.

I just did tons of test questions from a few resources that included rationales for both the correct and incorrect answers. If your school offers the ATI predictor, it will give you a good idea of what to focus on in preparation for the NCLEX.

I recently did both the hurst live & online review and kaplan live.

If you are a disclipned and independent learner - I would suggest Kaplan. It does take discipline to go through their online content and go through their zillions of tests/question trainers (I believe there are 7)... But it is pretty great program. Most of my classmates who did Kaplan finished in 75-80 questions. It really helps if you have a hard time with test- taking and already have a general idea about overall concepts. The live classes DO NOT focus on content but instead focus on how to approach questions. There was one person who had 265 but that person didn't really go over content and just did questions.

HURST

Is very entertaining and will keep you focused on learning the overview of the big concepts and materials. I think the online Hurst was actually better than the live-session. I would recommend doing it online, but again you need to sit down and put in the time. Marlene is very funny and the stuff you learn will stick with you - I think throughout your nursing career. Students in my program who did program (alone) tended to have more questions on NCLEX, compared to those who took Kaplan... The range in NCLEX questions for those who took hurst was 80 questions to 265. The average seemed to have in the 100-130 questions on NCLEX. If you really feel like you a learner who cannot be disclipned to study content on your own and just never really "got it" in nursing school, I would recommend Hurst.

I hope this helps you make an informed decision.

I did the live Hurst review seven years ago when I graduated from nursing school and I passed the NCLEX with 75 questions. Everyone I graduated with who took it passed with 75 questions. I really got a lot out of it.

I did the Hurst online review and found it to be very helpful. I tried to do 1-2 sections everyday up until a few days before my test date. What I liked about the online review was that I could watch certain clips over if I needed clarification and I could study at my own pace. My classmates who did Hurst live thought it was helpful too.

i will also be graduating in may 09 and had the opportunity to do the hurst review last august, and will be able to sit thru it again in may ( once you pay for it, you can take the live review as many times as it is offered). it was a bit overwhelming back in august but also helpful. i think it will be very helpful to take it again in may. good luck!!
