Hunter College New Generic Program

Published

Hi everyone,

I took the NLN and got a 131 :(, and my GPA is 3.89.I know that my gpa is at a good number , but i feel that my NLN test score is on the low side.I am planning on applying in 2014 for the traditional generic pathway. I was wondering if these scores are good enough for Hunter's new generic program. Anyone who got accepted for this program can you please share your GPA and NLN score.

Thanks :)

A lot of prereqs. I thought about NYU too but it's totally out of my league financially  I'm thinking about applying to Monroe College, LIU and maybe Touro College. Those are the only ones in NYC that seem to have a BSN program. I went to Monroe today for a pre-evaluation, but they told me I have to go to a nursing info session first so I'm going there on Wednesday. Btw what classes are you taking for fall? :)

i didn't even know that Monroe had a BSN program! This fall i have A&P, A&P lab, Stat 113, and Engl 220

They do :) It's pricey but it's my least priciest option, LIU is very expensive I've heard. Regardless, I'm probably going to apply to both. Do you have any tips for orgo? Did you study in a study group or by yourself? Keep in touch and let me know if you get accepted :cat: Also contact me if you have any questions!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering what are your thoughts on the Hunter's accelerated program vs generic pathway. I'm attending an information tomorrow (Thursday July 25, 2013) at 10am just to get an idea of the program and perhaps the folk there could answer my questions.

I hear the accelerated program only has about 30 seats, and they interview you? I have a solid GPA and wondering whether or not it's too early to start studying the NLN right now. I plan on applying for the program that begins next year. Just not sure if applying to only accelerated programs this year is a good idea, or if I should also apply to Hunter's general pathway as well.

@sesiliachan I took a year's worth of Orgo and personally, upperclass men gave me their old orgo exams and it helped give me an idea of the professor's testing style. It helps a bunch to do homework questions and to write down reactions/chemical structures on flash cards. At one point I went to a tutor just to get her practice exams because the professor I had at time was pretty tough (she had the same professor during the time she took it). It definitely helps to study in a group, especially when you get stuck on synthesis questions or mechanism questions. However, this is just my opinion and I hope I don't get a bad rep for this but orgo chem in my college was a class that weeds out students. From what I have seen, a lot of the students are competitive because the professor grades based on a standard curve. Basically anyone below or above a certain percentile gets a specific grade by the end of the term. Therefore, there was a lot of quarrel and division among students in terms of sharing ways of how to answer problems, finding older exams, appointments with the professor or a TA for help..even help during lab (lab partners would fight too for a couple of points). I am in no way trying to scare you or anyone taking orgo! Just be sure to invest your time studying it, pick the right friends that will stick with you in class and do your best =]

Thanks!

Ahhh! I am scared! :/ Science classes at Hunter are the toughest! I was thinking about taking it in another college but I'm still not sure what to do. I know about the method of reviewing old exams from people who took the class but I asked my friend for them and the professor never gave them back! :x I was also thinking about attending the lecture since it's in the auditorium which is huge and the professor doesn't take attendance. I think that would help too :) And my advice for you would be to apply to both, because you will have a bigger chance to get in to either one. Even though the accelerated is shorter. But anyway if I was you I would apply to both! Btw, did you take the NLN yet?

Yes be sure to attend lecture and ask the professor questions! Try to see if there's peer tutoring as well. I went to the info session and one is only allowed to apply to one of the programs. I have not taken the NLN yet and they're recommending I take it at hunter come February 2014, I'll see if I can take it earlier

Yeah that's what I was thinking too it will make me stress out less during my nursing curriculum with that off my shoulders. But then again is taking orgo and A&P together a wise choice? :scrying: A&P is all about memorizing which I'm good at but I really want to maintain my 4.0 GPA that means I have to study non-stop for orgo. You took A&P already, right sn4785? How was it? And did you take orgo in Hunter or in another college? I know we only have 1 professor teaching orgo and I've heard from friends that she's not very good at teaching. Btw, how many years have you been at Hunter? I wish I could PM you but I don't have enough posts to do that :/[/quote']

Try to do an e permit. I'm at Citytech, and their A&P classes aren't usually so bad. I know someone went to medgar evars and she said the class was a joke.

It's important to know a&p. So make sure you don't just memorize, but see if a permit can be approved to an easier class. You can pm me for info about how to do this

Yeah make sure you study enough for it Vincent! :o And thanks for the advice rakcna! But I'm not sure if taking an epermit class would look as good to the admissions people :x they will know why I decided to take it in another college and maybe they will take me less seriously? I don't know that's how I feel :x3: I think in the end I'll just study my behind off at Hunter ;)

Hello, I am currently a hunter student with a 3.8 gpa I took the nln in July and received a 98 I am retaking it in January what should I aim for for the new generic?

Does the New hunter program accept applicants if they withdraw from anatomy and physiology 2 prior to entering the program
