Hi everyone,
I took the NLN and got a 131 , and my GPA is 3.89.I know that my gpa is at a good number , but i feel that my NLN test score is on the low side.I am planning on applying in 2014 for the traditional generic pathway. I was wondering if these scores are good enough for Hunter's new generic program. Anyone who got accepted for this program can you please share your GPA and NLN score.
Thanks :)

hey! just took my nln today for hunter as well. my GPA is a 3.7 and i got 128, not so happy about that but I tried my best. As far as where that puts you I think you have a great shot because the nursing advisor told me that you're ranked by GPA first then they weigh in the nln. With a 3.89 you'll be high on the list!

Hey! :) I'm currently a student at Hunter College and I took the NLN test on July 16th (my birthday haha ) I also got a 131, which I think is pretty good considering people with a score of 120 got accepted last year. My GPA is 4.0 but I still haven't taken organic chemistry which I think I'm not going to get an A in :x You know how science courses are at Hunter!! I think our scores and GPAs are just one small piece of the big picture. What is also really important is your personal statement and job and volunteer experience. I hate that Hunter only accepts people for the fall because we're losing so much time :/ I took all my GERs I just have to take org. chem next semester and maybe anatomy and physiology if possible? I have to ask the nursing advisers about that because I would end up taking only 1 class and not getting financial aid!
oh wow , ranked by GPA first!! i did not know this thanks for the info!!!
i looked it up, and yes the NLN can be retaken 6 months after. I am defiantly taking it again.
With your GPA you got this. I took orgo chem last spring it was an ok class, i got an A just need to spend the time to absorb all the information. The key to pass that class is STUDY STUDY STUDY. I actually liked orgo chem better than gen chem... haha I'm weird like that. You should take anatomy and physiology, it will lighten the load of classes to take during the nursing program.
Yeah that's what I was thinking too, it will make me stress out less during my nursing curriculum with that off my shoulders. But then again is taking orgo and A&P together a wise choice? A&P is all about memorizing which I'm good at but I really want to maintain my 4.0 GPA that means I have to study non-stop for orgo. You took A&P already, right sn4785? How was it? And did you take orgo in Hunter or in another college? I know we only have 1 professor teaching orgo and I've heard from friends that she's not very good at teaching. Btw, how many years have you been at Hunter? I wish I could PM you but I don't have enough posts to do that :/
I took orgo at hunter in the spring 2013 and if we are taking about the same professor for orgo she's not that bad. She has office hours right after class, so you can clear up any questions. It is a class that you have to read the chaps BEFORE coming to class because of the iclicker questions. I didn't take A&P yet. I'm taking it this fall. The professor is good (I looked her up on the teacher evaluations) so i don"t think taking both will be a problem. In spring 2014 I plan to take a double science (A&P and Micro).
Good luck!! Hope I do good too it's gonna be tough :x I'm thinking about applying to private colleges as well, what about you sn4785? :)
oh yes , i'm gonna also apply to private colleges. NYU is expensive, but it's close by in Manhattan. I was also thinking about Binghamton University. I finished most of their pre reqs
These prerequisite courses** consist of:
*Introductory biology is waived for students who take microbiology and anatomy and physiology at another college.
** All courses must be taken for at least three credits. It is expected that anatomy, chemistry, microbiology, and physiology include a laboratory component.
