Did anybody apply to HSU for the spring 2010 nursing class? I just applied to the university today since they are only accepting pre-nursing majors for the school as transfers and 2nd bacs. Now, I'm going to apply to the nursing school. Wish me luck for the spring 2010!
I'm new to this site, although I've visited it by using Google searches.
I applied to HSU for Spring 2010, too!
I'm very anxious to hear back..but after reading some posts on this website, I'm wondering if my 'score' will be high enough. I did quite well on the TEAS...I got all the points in that section. However, my GPA isn't tip top, due to undergraduate mayhem
Sorry that I have to pay for that now...but, se la vie.
3.4 in both areas, actually, ...and I'll get the 5 points for experience as well...not so much for living up there...yet.
Anyone mind sharing what they think their 'score' might be???
Just so I can exhale a little...and know where I stand with at least a few applicants :)
I'm currently on the waitlist at MPC in Monterey. But, it looks like they are only taking 20 students next fall as opposed to the 50 they usually take...due to budget cuts, of course. And, I'm #45...
Will it EVER happen?
well... :)
Good Luck to you all!
Depending on what they decide to give me for my patient experience, I have a point total of around 85ish, maybe a little more, maybe a little less. I can only assume they'll give me full points since I have over 300 hours of paid direct patient care, but who knows! Anyway, it's very obvious to me that I won't be getting in with anywhere around 85 points. As Solidus and I have been discussing, the competition at HSU for spring '10 is going to be INSANE due to the recent decision to cut spring admission at all state schools (and thus everyone who was planning on applying to other CSUs will probably have applied to HSU as they were the only ones with enough money to accept applications). I bet there will be a lot of people with 90+ points this time around. And actually, some people who have in the low 90s are even worried about whether they'll get in. Uggh!!
Anyway, I wish you and everyone else the best of luck on getting into HSU, but I'm personally not counting on it!
yup, with my 85+ points, there's no way I'm getting in. But blueie and I tried.
my hopes are for CSUB, and the schools I applied to this week.
good luck with MPC. I hear Hartnell is great too in Salinas. Don't go to my community college in Gilroy, Gavilan. It's a ladder structure.
Next month we find out whether or not we get accepted or not. That's pretty fast coming by, almost makes my heart beat faster by the second!
Thanks...
Well, I'm in the 80's.... 87 actually. And I will be moving up there (to humboldt co) soon...so if I am not accepted for Spring...I will apply for fall again. My score will still be 87,...but I will at least get the extra 5 for living in Humboldt Co. So, it'll be 92...that's a tad better...
I've been waiting for this for so long it's ridiculous! I finished all prereqs TWO years ago! I've waited one year so far for MPC, and as I said earlier (yesterdays email), I have at LEAST one more to wait with MPC...probably 2 more years with the budget cuts....
So I have to be honest, your reply kinda bummed me out
I was feeling pretty confident... buuuut, as I said, I'll reapply in Fall if the Spring doesn't work out..and hopefully, it won't be AS competitive!
It's so frustrating! I have a BA in psychology, plus some graduate level work...and I know I'll be successful in my career as a nurse...but in the mean time, what can you do?!
It's disappointing that they weigh so much on cummulative GPA....understandable to a degree...but honestly, one could be a straight A student, and have one little mishap and be ruined. It just doesn't seem fair, exactly.
:)
Well, good luck to you all too!
Someday we'll all be there!
(ps. I'm considering some Assoc pgms even...just to get the RN so I can go ahead and work toward becoming a midwife or NP!.....I just figured HSU would be smart because I do already have a Bachelors, and I would have a second one...
the more the merrier, right? :)
Plus from what i've read, pay is the same for ADN's and BSN's....just that there are advantages to BSN (such as grad school, etc..)
annnnnyway
I'm rambling at this point.
take care! :)
You have a BA? May I ask why you're not considering applying for Accelerated BSN programs (1 year long)? I heard it's less competitive for those programs right now in CA.
BTW--Solidus, when you go to your student center thing for HSU, is there still a section that shows the status of your application (with the options of complete, incomplete, or admitted)? Mine's disappeared!
akakentucky, since you have a BA already, you should do the accelerated route for a BSN if you want an MSN. Look for programs that have Accelerated BSN programs or accelerated MSN programs for those with a BS/BA in another field.
I think SFSU has the accelerated MSN program for those with a BS/BA already. UCSF had the accelerated BSN too.
Bluechick, mine is gone too. They gave me a to-do list too. They want my official transcript by Sept. 26. I sent them one already in early September but I don't know why they are asking me again. Do you have anything on your to-do list? Does this mean we got rejected as an early sign? hahaha!
Well, I was all set to apply to Samuel Merritt, but thought it was MUCH more competitive than other RN pgms! I have a good friend who applied to the SF campus, and didn't get in...her background is VERY similar to mine (except she has a BS not a BA)!! You have to have all the same requirements, plus 2-3 letters of recommendation.
Which I had, but....I wanted to stay here.
Actually, I only recently found out about HSU; 2 months ago!
I started looking elsewhere when I heard of the budget cuts at MPC.
I originally decided to stay in Monterey b/c I did my sciences here, and the school is GREAT! I'm comfortable here, and I KNOW first hand, that the school has wonderful staff!
Take it from me...you never know until you're there! I went ot Ohio State for my undergraduate degree, a top 10 university...and I feel I learned more at MPC in one year than i did in four years at OSU.
Now, having said that, individual results may vary
I just worked better at a smaller school. Ohio State was too big for me! I was too easily disguised. Classes of 1000 students + will to that ya!
Anyway...
I noticed you guys are young'uns :)
I take it you are transfer students?
once again, good luck!
uhh he he he, yes transfer. I'm 19. I have hopes to be a CRNA one day. That's why I really need to get into nursing school. I hope to go to a less impacted school, CSUB. there were only 69 people that applied in my batch, but 30% didn't take TEAS. Not many people like CSUB because it's a "sewer school" as they say. Mostly for "those who didn't so extremely well in high school and the likes," but I don't care what they say. An RN is an RN is an RN, whether from Yale or community college, they get paid the same. Besides, I get to graduate college in less than the typical 4 years if i do go to CSUB. I started my first college class in high school at 16. Then I graduated high school early (I took all the easy classes as filler graduation credits and college credit courses to get me out faster). Then I went to community college to begin my nursing prerequisites.
Now I am waiting for nursing programs to get me, and this is where it took me.
Solidus-GOOD FOR YOU!!!
Way to plan it out!
Great that you know what you want, and are going for it! And, I think you're right, an RN is an RN....and the pay is the same no matter what. HOWEVER...having a name like Yale on your resume could catch an eye.
But still, your reasoning is the same I'm using when I say that I'm considering Assoc level RN degrees. Because I do have a BA already, all i need is the RN license (not another Bachelors) to be eligible for masters level pgms to become an NP or midwife, or nurse anesthetist, you know. Although the 2nd bachelors couldn't hurt....
So....yeah.
Sounds like you're got a great head start!
Keep it up!
:)
OH, and my 'to do' list is missing also. But i did somehow see that they are still missing 1 transcript from me.
I'll go look again now.

Oh Ok, yeah I think I got that e-mail when I sent in my admissions packet back in August.
SMU isn't accepting applications anymore (their deadline was Sept 1) which is quite unfortunate because if I get in, I'd really like to know someone!
Goodluck with SFSU and Fresno! But I'm really sure you'll get in to CSUB. Really. If you didn't get in I'd eat my hat.
Keep me posted!
