Did anybody apply to HSU for the spring 2010 nursing class? I just applied to the university today since they are only accepting pre-nursing majors for the school as transfers and 2nd bacs. Now, I'm going to apply to the nursing school. Wish me luck for the spring 2010!
Well, I just sent in my additional application information to the HSU nursing department (copy of the app, letter from my manager, unofficial transcripts, etc) so I guess it's official! I wonder when they let us know...?
ughh! I'm still stuck trying to decide if I should still send my info or abandon! Because I have a very good feeling with CSU Bakersfield for the spring after I spoke with the nursing admissions person. And I also have other schools with good feelings too such as SFSU and Fresno State. I don't want to go to HSU unless I really have to because it's just way too exepensive and far! I even feel as if I am not taking HSU seriously. What should I do?!? Should I just go with what I feel about HSU and place my bets on my good hopes or not?
good luck bluechick!
Well, this is my personal opinion. If you've already spent the money to apply to HSU, you might as well just finish the application process. It doesnt cost anything (except the couple bucks it costs to mail your stuff in) to apply to the nursing department, so you don't want to throw your $50 away. Plus, it can be used as your "back-up". What happens if (knock on wood!!!!!!!) you don't get in to any of the schools you have good feelings about? You'll be stuck waiting around until fall! Atleast this way you'll be expanding your options. What would your total points be at HSU if you did decide to apply to the nursing program?
Oh :) Well, let me know what you decide to do!
haha!! Ok after days and days of harsh internal decisions, I finally decided to apply and continue with the nursing application. I just finished the packet and it's sitting inside my mail box ready to be sent. At least I decided to continue on when I was on the verge of giving up, and good thing it hasn't been october 1 yet.
I have a new question, so if we don't get into the nursing program, we get rejected by HSU? does that mean the HSU dept. of nursing has power over HSU for the spring semester? I mean, what about transcripts? because on my HSU student center, it says my application was complete but I have not sent in any transcripts. Will the dept. of nursing evaluate our transcripts or must we send one to HSU admissions?
I had to send mine to HSU Admissions. You send an unofficial copy to the nursing dept. at HSU (basically just printed off the website of your school if you can do such a thing).
PS glad you decided to apply! I've basically given up hope on my application since my point total is so low and the competition is going to be INSANE thanks to the state budget cuts...
but I really hope you get in and I'll be crossing my fingers for myself to get into Samuel Merritt this time around! :)

AWW! Don't give up yet!:wink2: Now, it's at the point where whatever school accepts you, you MUST take it! i've only applied to HSU and CSUB so far for spring 2010. I have yet for Fresno and SFSU this Oct. for fall 2010, then I am done with nursing school apps. My total point is about max 87/105 for HSU... I'm not even sure if that is competitive or not, I'm lost. It'd be nice if we both got in HSU though, then I'd know someone who shares the pain at least.
Hey, when is the due date for official transcripts to be sent to HSU admissions? I already sent an unofficial to HSU dept. of nursing.
When I asked the people at HSU about transcripts she said there wasn't an official due date for official copies, but to get them in ASAP. She said they prefer to have them before the application deadline, but that it's ok if they're sent late.
I won't GIVE UP, but I'm definitely not competitive enough to be directly accepted--maybe waitlisted at best. Will there even be a waitlist?
Hey Bluechick, will you go to HSU if you did hear back from them first, or are you going to wait for SMC, SFSU, CSUEB...ect.? I've applied to HSU and CSUB only, and I don't hear back from CSUB until Dec.19-25.
I just recieved a mail from HSU telling me that I won't recieve admissions notice until 6-8wks after Oct. 1, a.k.a in November. The thing is, CSUB is my first choice to go to, but what if I get accepted to HSU first before knowing about CSUB?
Did you recieve the same notice too? Do you still intend to go to SMC even if you got in HSU?
Gahh! This is frustrating! Oh, and I don't believe there is a waitlist. They said to apply again if you didn't make the cut. Sorry :-(
Hey, (hope you're doing well!!)
I didn't get anything from HSU saying when I'd hear about admission status which concerns me a little! Did it come via e-mail or USPS? If it's USPS I guess mine is just running a little late, but if it's an e-mail, maybe I should contact them and see what's going on? They e-mailed me a while ago (when I submitted my application) and said they received it and it was complete. Dunno.
Anyway, I've only applied for HSU and SMU for spring 2010 (as they're the only ones taking applications!!!). I'll be applying to USF if I don't get in to either SMU or HSU b/c USF's deadline isn't until Dec 1st and I'll have heard back from both other schools before then. You said that HSU won't notify us of admission until 6-8 weeks after October 1st. That's actually the same time frame that SMU gave me, so I should be hearing back from both of them around the same time. If I get into SMU, I will definitely be taking that as it's actually closer to my house than my current community college is! So I wouldn't have to worry about relocating, rent, anything.
About your situation, though... I would say that if you hear back from HSU first, put in your intention to accept their offer of admission. That way you can hold your spot at HSU. If you end up getting in to CSUB (which I definitely think you will--your chances are VERY high considering how many people applied and how many spots are available), you can tell HSU you changed your mind! I'm also pretty sure they give you a 2 week period after you receive your acceptance letter to let them know of your decision, so use that to your advantage :)
Hey thanks! I hope you are doing well too !!
Yes, it was emailed to me saying ,
"I received your complete application for the HSU Nursing program for Spring 2010. Admissions notices will be sent, via email, 6-8 weeks after the 10/01/2009 application deadline."
That's all. They also said that if your application for HSU dept. of Nursing was incomplete, or not filled correctly, you will be denied from the university.
I have 2 more schools on my list(SFSU and Fresno State) this Oct.1st (by the way, I live in Gilroy), but I am also thinking about applying maybe to USF and possible (but very unsure) SMCollege, if they are still accepting. But overall, I place ALL my bets on Bakersfield for spring 2010, I love their 21-month BSN program. Really hope you get in SMC! HSU just seems so far, but makes a great backup choice for us here in the Bay Area.
