Humber or George Brown Sept 2014

World Canada CA Programs

Hi Everybody!

I've been having dilemmas lately on what nursing school is better suited for me. My top 2 schools that I've applied for is George Brown & Humber College.

I've applied to both RPN & RN degree's in both schools. I'm still deciding on what career path is best for me to take 4 years or, 2 then 3 years, but ultimately my dream job is to end up as a paediatric or OB/Maternity Nurse :inlove:

I know that its pretty early & people are only applying now to colleges/uni's but I really would like to see comments/reviews of individuals who are already in these school's or graduated. Thank you :)

Hey Beauty,

no problem for the help, I am happy to share anything I can.

lol, it is possible to have a bit of a life while taking the nursing program at Humber but you run the risk of failing a core class which means you will be held back a year because they don't offer redo classes in the summer for the core nursing classes. If you want to ensure that you will pass each year you will have to make sacrifices unless you are really, really, smart and if you are a quick learner, unfortunately, I am neither of the two. I am a slow learner and I am average in the smarts department, BUT, I do great when I invest my time into things, so that's what I did, I had no life but I ended up with all A's and a B.

But I think no matter where you go, you will find that the best way to ensure you pass each year requires a lot of sacrifices...Remember, you will have to do this as a career eventually and it's better to try to understand as much as you can so that you are as comfortable as you can be when it's time to work! I know some stuff won't apply but you know what I mean...

There is a reading week during the winter term (2nd term) and between terms there is a week or two off. No break in the first term. The profs do give you enough time to complete assignments and stuff.

@Simsimah

I know what you mean the campus reminds of me a maze! A little difficult since everything is in one building but i'm sure once learned it will be easy. Thank you for sharing, & do you mean you already started the program or for sept 2014?

@Dawntoearth

Thats so true that dosn't sound bad then, I myself don't go out much at all so it wouldn't be a bother to me to put my full attention on my studies. I was just asking cause everyone's experinces are different some say, no life others can have somewhat of a life I just didn't want to scare myself haha. And I agree your right sacerfices will have to be made, honestly i'm excited to learn and start school already I want the summer to go by quick! And thank you again for replying I really do appreciate all of your helpful advice's. Thank you! :)

@beauty49

I'm starting first year nursing this Sept, but I was there last year for the GAS program. So, I'm familiar with the campus.

Hey guys! I thought I would update this post. I finally chose which school to go to, humber program! I decided based on location, & easy transportation It would be smarter for me to choose the school that takes 15 min to get there, then

the 30 min downtown subway trip. It was a hard decision but i'm glad I finally chose one. The one thing i'm wondering is does humber nursing program run through the summer? And by summer I mean July & August. I noticed online when you check the 2014-15 Unb schedule online there is a 13 week, if someone could clarify this that would be great.

Thank you :):

hi beauty49!

ur thread helped me make my decision: i had the option of George, Centennial, Ryerson and Humber, but i chose humber...

now gotta do the osap thing!! i hope to start in september 2014.

maybe i'll see u there!!

@CeeS

Aww glad this thread could help you. Hopefully i get to see you there aswell!! && i know i'm doing

the osap thing aswell alot of steps but must be done :)

I am currently enrolled in the GBC bridging program. All I can say is don't do it. The course load is insane and unrealistic. You can't work, can't have a life...nothing beside study and writing papers. I'm not sure how is going to be next semester but I'm not too optimistic. I feel I wasted my time and I stressed myself for nothing. Some of the courses offered are so useless. I had to take 2 electives that have nothing to do with nursing. I found them interesting but too demanding for just being electives. Besides papers , we had a discussion board weekly and on top to respond to 2 peers, plus tests and the final exam. And that is one course, I had 9 all together this semester only. I honestly don't recommend it if you still want to work or have a life. I was wondering how is Humber compared to this....tks

Hey! I feel like their both similar. I'm in my second year now, and the semester I just completed is the most difficult alot of quizzes, assignments on top of midterms & final exams. I understand what you mean about the stress, but thankfully I only do 5 courses each semester, take out clinical and it's 4. It is achievable just requires priorities to be put into place but definitely can be done! I don't work during the school year but I have friends who do, and they managed to get good marks and still work part time. However I really think that depends on the person, whether they can do that I know I can't. Overall i'm glad I made the decision to go to Humber. Good luck with your program! And enjoy your winter break :)

Hi! I'm looking to become a RN, but am having difficulties as to which school I should attend between George Brown, Humber or Seneca. Would appreciate any feedback. I'm looking at schools that have amazing professors, great support for students, and reasonable course load ( if that even exists)

I hope it turned out great for you. I honestly am fearing this too^. I got my acceptance the other day and I seriously want to finish and get my BScN on time.
