Human anatomy & physiology part 1?

Published

Hello all! This upcoming semester, I will be taking Human Anatomy & Physiology part 1. I was wondering do you all have any tips or tricks as to how to study and pass this course? Also, I applied for MWF class from 1-2:45 if that helps.

Specializes in Psych (25 years), Medical (15 years).

Here's one: I made up a little thing to help me remember the vertebrae in order: Cute Tots Love Sugar Candy- Cervical Thoracic Lumbar Sacral Coccyx.

Thank you so much! I'll keep that in mind.

Specializes in Private Duty Pediatrics.

I make flash cards. Most college bookstores sell blanks, already connected with a ring.

Fill them in, and take them with you. When you have a few minutes, here & there, pull them out and flip through.

For me, repetition is key. I do it a few minutes at a time, often.

You don't have to wait until you have an hour set aside for study.

Get the book the class uses and read through it before the class starts. study the bone, muscle, vessel names, focus on the blood cells, electrolytes and glycolysis. if you understand that (glycolysis krebs cycle and the ETC) you are way ahead, lots of great youtube videos on these subjects.

I also like the incredibly easy, incredibly visual series of books, i got a bunch of them at goodwill for cheap. but amazon has them. the pathophysiology visual and easy as well as the fluids and electrolytes books are really good. Fluids and electrolytes you want to know inside and out for nursing school, know the causes and s/s of electrolyte imbalance and how fluid shifts occur

Netter's clinical anatomy is a good pocket guide. Many schools suggest an optional coloring book, does not work for my style of learning but if that is for you, go for it.

Flash cards really helped me with the anatomy part. I'd take photos of the models in class, print them out, paste them to a large index card. Then I'd label the bits I needed to know with a number and on the flip side I'd write the exact name of the bit and it's function if relevant. I'd just use those over and over until I had them down.

For the physio part, I'd read and read and read again.

I also did a lot of mnemonics as well - usually something sexual or inappropriate because that was more apt to stay in my brain ;)

Good luck!

Thank you Kitiger!

I appreciate your comment and by any chance do you know the name of the YouTube channel that you are referring to?

i updated my post with more info

Crash course series is good, Khan academy is boring as heck IMHO but they have topics on everything

I updated my post above, also added a link to youtube but it wont post because links are moderated so search Crash Course series and Khan academy

It's funny that you mentioned the coloring book because I actually just ordered the anatomy coloring book by Wynn Kapit a few days ago. The book had really good reviews and I thought that I would test it out.

Reading the book and taking notes from it was the only way I studied for A&P I &II and I got an A and a B for parts 1& 2.
