HSBC Question..........Help!!!

Hie everyone

I know we discussed about opening bank accounts in the USA. HSBC was one of them that could be done from here. My dilemma is the HSBC nearest to where I live said they know nothing about how to open one and its nothing to do with HSBC Uk and Im confused.

Please anyone who has opened one help me with a number(PM me please) so I can call and make inquiries.

Maybe the person at the bank could not be bothered. But which branch you used will be helpful.

My DH says " You and that allnurses.com of yours , who told you about this HSBC" He thinks I spend to much time on allnurses and get ideas. But I love it.

Please someone help me.

I remember speaking to someone in my hubbys local branch here in the UK and he said should be no problems doing it online by looking at hsbc.com instead of .co.uk I know we spoke to someone at hsbc in NY about a morgage and he said he couldn't see any problems as can get some sort of credit history by requesting hsbc uk and he had actually done a few morgages for people from the UK

Thanks for the advice. I have looked up the HSBC.com and yes they do the offshore current account in various currencies so will be applying for that one just need to come up with the deposit but it seems straightfoward. Thanks.

haven't checked it out myself yet, been a bit busy, popped down to Fareham as hubby had a interview down there for a temp job whilst waiting for retrogression to sort itself out.

Hi- I opened a HSBC USA bank account quite recently for the same reason as you, but I was advised to first open a premier bank account here- you have to pay for it a small fee monthly but it is worth it for the benefits honestly and then you have to go via HSBC main offices based in London to open up the USA account.

Its easier if you have a premier account because the both accounts can be premier ones and then you have your own personal mananger you can speak to personally in the US for things like mortgages etc rather than going through a call centre. You also get things like free travel insurance annually.

My account is in Florida even though I want to go to Georgia but it doesnt matter. HSBC Uk never seem to know that Ive opened an acount over there whenever I speak to them as the two parts of the company dont seem to communicate if that makes sense but I do believe that some credit background can be transferred from one side to the other.

Weve also opened an american express account here too which was recommended. Check out the links from Madwife about it on this site.

Yes $10 000 deposit for the offshore.That's why I 'm thinking about it. Ha-ha-ha(laughing at myself realy)

I looked up again the Premier, it is PREMIER for sure they are talking about investing/saving 60 000pounds to be able to open that one. Well I'm 60 000pounds myself so I don't know about that one. It seems a non-starter.

if you are able to open an account over here prior to your move then its really easy to transfer money from the uk to here. supposed to take 5 days, but the last transaction we made took 24 hours.

when we moved we just brought enough cash to live on until the bank accounts could be opened, then transferred enough money to purchase our condo. ( they can use your uk credit for mortgages )

Have you looked on the hsbc co uk site , it says it helps you move overseas for premier members or for £100 one off fee for non memebers- we were going to do this as it says we will get similar credit facilities overseas . It is an international not offshore account. Anyone done this:confused:

My HSBC branch in Camberley, Surrey has assured me that they can transfer my credit history and at the same time my new account in their Chicago branch for a small fee around £100.00. There was no mention of having an average daily balance of $10000.Who has that in their bank account anyway. I am with them for 7 years now and it's worth keeping your credit history from them.

I am just being over cautious and just applied and approved for American Express Credit card with£5000 credit limit. Not a bad start.

Check out HSBC Camberley, Surrey Branch. Their staffs are very helpful.
