I haven't seen anyone start a thread about applying for this year's HRSA scholarships. I am waiting to see if I am accepted into a school in IL (fingers crossed!) and then I am going to start my application process for HRSA. The program I am applying to is a 16 months ABSN that starts in august! what about you all?
Have you been accepted some where yet? Still in the application process? Already started the Scholarship application?

I had some troubles with my school submitting academic verification, so I didn’t submit my app until Aug 10th.
So still holding out for this one (no email no credit check ?) or VA. As a military spouse I was hoping that would go in my favor. LOL
It will all work out, you never know, we all might get a congratulations in the morning..LOL.. let’s keep praying and being hopeful?… I applied after you and was wondering why my status didn’t change. Guess they ran out of funds. I’m surprised Biden didn’t give them extra money like he did with the nurse Corp.
Does anyone know if I am chosen and decide to get my MSN afterwards how that would work out? Would I have to complete the two years prior to obtaining my MSN or am I able to work part time and complete my MSN on the side? If possible, please provide some references I can refer to (I’m having difficulties finding information on my end).
Thanks for sending this! Since they mentioned postgrad residency training I wonder would we be allowed to do a new grad RN residency program at a major hospital to get training and then do our service?
One of the things I’m nervous about is that in my area, Los Angeles, there aren’t any qualifying HRSA hospitals so I’d have to work at a small clinic which means less training and experience and then would be very difficult to obtain a hospital job later on. Someone even advised me not to take this scholarship so that I don’t start of my career on the wrong foot and that this can be “career suicide”.

I don't think they will allow that. It is also not "career suicide" if you are helping less fortunate individuals. In my opinion, it will be nicer to start out at a clinic setting and slowly learn things as you go as opposed to jumping right into the inpatient hospital setting and being thrown to the sharks. You will learn SO much over the two years of committment. Honestly, two years is NOT that long compared to being in debt for 10+ years. After two years, you will probably be hired for ANY position in ANY speciality you want as opposed to starting in the hospital in MedSurg because you committed your time early on serving those in need. Personal experiences > What others say. Nursing is a constantly evolving learning process and there is so much to learn! I would hate feeling comfortable in one area.
Thanks for your reply! That’s definitely good to hear! Do you feel it’s possible to work in a hospital after starting in a clinic? It seems hospital jobs all want at least 2 years experience of work in a hospital, that’s why someone advised me not to start off at a clinic. I’d like to the flexibility of having both options open and nervous if I’m closing the door to one (I.e. hospitals).

You would definitely be able to work at a hospital! I can't speak for California because I'm sure lots of people want to work there due to high wages. I think everywhere is in need of staffing regardless of pay! (Travel nursing, DUH). Also, an entry-level position with 2 years prior hospital experience IN A hospital literally makes no sense! You have to go through training for 6 months - 1 year with any specialty field typically so they will make sure you are properly trained. I think it's wrong that we are teaching future nurses that their only pathway is MedSurg and in a hospital.
Hi,
I was more referring to if we start out at a small clinic for 2 years, since those are the only sites approved by HRSA in the Los Angeles area and they don’t have new grad residency programs so if later after 2 years we decide to go to work at a hospital it seems to be not possible. I don’t mean an entry level job at a hospital since we would already have 2 years of clinic experience we wouldn’t be entry level, I mean a regular RN position. The non entry level RN jobs at hospitals seem to all require at least 2 years of hospital experience. I wouldn’t qualify for an new grad entry level position if I already worked 2 years at a clinic. So that’s my dilemma because with Nurse Corps in the Los Angeles area the only options are small clinics that don’t have residency programs (I don’t see anything about training on their websites), so if later you want to work in a hospital it’s very difficult.

I’ve been feeling the same way, I’m from Philly and all Philly, jersey, and Delaware have is health centers and clinics with a HRSA score of 14 or higher no hospitals and I’m concerned if I will get the proper training that I would in a hospital
