I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.
Hi all! Does anyone have a program start date before July 1st and is trying to apply to the program? Can you get around this stipulation? For example, can you say your program starts July 1 (say it actually starts June 15), and if you get the award, you personally pay your bill for the dates between June 15 and July 1, and then the scholarship would take care of the rest of the year??
Are you rendered totally ineligible because your program starts before July 1?!!
I completely agree. I am so nervous. My academic recommender turned my letter around in a matter of 2hrs! Makes me very wary about what the heck he wrote. He's the department chair and not one of my teachers. I feel like my teacher may have been better but I chose the department chairman because well, he's the chairman! (trumps the profs).
My next one is from a doctor (former boss) but my other colleague (also a doctor) wants to write one too....and she's a better writer. I hate to rescind the initial invite to the 1st doctor but between him and the chairman, I might have to.
Run from this scholarship at all costs. They have radically changed the facilities you can work at. Just try to find an acute care hospital that is deemed an eligible facility now. I was one of the last lucky ones, and I actually got to begin my service commitment at an actual hospital where you could gain real nursing experience. I need a new job now because my unit is overstaffed and there are literally no facilities that are eligible that you can actually work at as an RN. They started this ridiculous scoring system and the only places that are eligible are community health centers that don't even really hire RNs!!! This is the government people. They have no clue what they are doing. Run, dont walk, away from this scholarship because you will find when you graduate you are screwed. Im just worried they will force me to find a new job, but Im hoping that I can make it through one more year until I can get my freedom back to earn a decent living.
