2012-2013 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Application

The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.

I just got a little piece of info. I did not get the invoice link or the welcome packet in my account even though the email says it will be there. I called and they said it is a technical glitch that they are fixing on an individual basis. So if you don't have those links either make sure you call customer service so they can put in an inquiry to your case worker, so they can send you the info to your portal account. I also spoke to the head of third party billing at my university (who has experience with the scholarship) and he says that the welcome packet is needed to really invoice or bill HRSA. So make sure that if you don't have that welcome packet, you call right away so that the billing process can be completed. I will update as I know more, and please anyone else with details pass them on.

My documents were updated under "Service Information" (welcome kit) today too.

I made an appt with someone in Financial Aid at my school next week to go over the invoicing. I'm not worried about the tuition and fees, as that seems pretty straight forward, but I am worried about the ORC numbers as, so far, that reporting process seems vague to me.

Also, I started a facebook group. If someone else has, please let me know, I don't need it to be mine! I don't think I can post a link, but if you search for HRSA NSP 2012, or for me under "musingmom," hopefully you can either find the group or me! My name starts with M Koz, and I'm wearing scrubs in my profile photo (so you know you've got the right person!) Please let me know if neither of those works, and we'll figure something else out.

If you're having a hard time finding the Facebook page, try searching "NSP HRSA" instead of "HRSA NSP".

Has anyone had any luck with taking the paperwork up to their school? I took my invoice information in, and they called me a few days later and said they needed the official award letter. So- I sent that over this morning. The woman who I spoke to last week said she called HRSA and they said they would also send the school some other paperwork directly. So I don't really know how long/ complicated of a process this will be. I am a bit nervous because I go to a huge school, and I don't know if I am going to be lost in the shuffle. I still have no idea when/ how they will get our ORC amounts. Eeekkk... I am just eager to do what I can to get the process going but feel like I don't know what all to do exactly.

I went last week to my school. There is only one specific lady in charge of all the HRSA. Plus, I attend school in Puerto Rico. I am in the all-english program but all of our paperwork and documents are in spanish so she has to translate everything before she sends it to HRSA. she has been extra helpful in making sure all the necessary paperwork gets turned in. She said she will call me once she submitted everything so I can relax a little bit. hehe. My only worry is that she is currently pregnant and her baby is due in November, which means she should be leaving on maternity leave soon! So I am freaking out what will happen/who will help me out considering she is the only person who handles the HRSA. She told me "dont worry, I wont be leaving off the face of the planet" but I would not want her worrying about me while she has a newborn! yikes! Also, in regards to ORC, the lady and I went down the checklist making sure that everything that was included in that list was part of the ORC. Really get to know the person handling the HRSA as she will soon become your best friend! I dont speak spanish so thankfully the woman in charge of handling the HRSA is fluent in english because almost everyone else in the financial aid/bursar's office only speaks spanish. Maybe thats why she was assigned to HRSA. hehhe.

Pearlgirl: I am super jealous haha! That's awesome that you found someone super helpful! I used to have bad dreams that the scholarship would fall through. Now I have bad dreams that my paperwork is going to get messed up somehow...

I know another woman at my school receiving a HRSA scholarship...and the school has messed up the paperwork. However, HRSA worked with the student and school to obtain the correct documentation without any interruption in benefit to the student. Mistakes will likely happen, but it's ok.
