2012-2013 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Application

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.

Hrsa 2012 family!! Woo. I am sure we will be on here helping each other out thru the rest of the process over the next few months. I am super glad we've had a place to chat since our friends/ family have no clue what we are talking about with this and probably don't want to hear the words : status, portal, award date ever again haha.

lol i know! When I got the first email that I got the award, I told her about and she was upset. LOL. She thought it was something bad. LOL. and then i tried to explain it to her but she was still super confused.

The other day, Kaplan came to my school to give us an orientation on the NCLEX review stuff and the did some raffles on some of their books and even gave away a Kaplan NCLEX-RN prep (which is worth $499) and I WON the raffle!!!

My friends have been telling me that its looks like its my "Calling" to be a nurse because I keep getting these opportunities!! I am so thankful for everything!!!! :)!!!!

I'm still in shock too, and anxious about my school invoicing and everything. I can't believe I don't have to worry about tuition! I found out yesterday about an hour before my first pharm test, lol!

Can we start a private facebook group for HRSA 2012? It would be great for sharing resources and experiences moving forward, after all there are lot of hoops for us to jump through for the next couple of years! Don't get me wrong, I'm super grateful for my hoops! You guys have been invaluable support, though, while we were waiting, I hate to lose that resource!

I see that I am late to the party! I just saw the email and am going through the site right now. CONGRATS everyone!!!! I am thrilled we have all gotten to this point!! I am already having trouble finding some forms, but knowing all of you the answer is probably in a previous post.

Not a bad idea for facebook group...I'm in!!! I feel so alone trying to figure things out, when I tried to explain this process to my family, friends, classmates..noone understood, feel like i'm hitting stone wall. And my mom even added her 2 cents " where is the scholarship you said, you've won?" LOL

Did you guys get an email with the invoice attachment? I printed it out and took it up to the bursar's office today....they seemed confused which was a bit concerning haha. So that being said- I hope we all can get the invoices processed without too much difficulty. I am interested if anyone else has talked to their school, and what all they said. The woman I spoke with basically took the forms, and said she needed to pass it on to someone else and they would call me (?). Eek.

Ok whoa. Now I'm confused already. I am just now home and able to read through these emails in detail (as soon as the invoice one came through I hightailed it from class to the bursar's office). My 'welcome kit' (with invoice instructions) that it states is available on our portals came in email form...not on my portal. Is that the case for everyone else or am I blind/ missing a link? Is that all we need to be doing right now? How do we report the ORC?

and everyone else,

My university's accounting office seems pretty familiar with the process since a few other students previously have been awarded the scholarship. I am also a university employee so I have greater access to them. I will be talking to the specialist in the morning and will pass on any info or tips to getting all the paperwork done correctly and in a hurry. Again CONGRATULATIONS to everyone I am just so excited about actually being a participant and no longer an applicant!!

btw, how does the stipened work? do we get retroactive stipends for summer classes?

Oh wait, nevermind, found my answer

"The first payment for new NSP awardees will be made no later than November 2012 and will include stipend payments retroactive to July 1st and the annual payment for other reasonable costs."

No I didn't get an email with the invoice. I guess I will contact them tomorrow to get it

My email came from a woman from HRSA (maybe whoever is assigned to me?) and it just said basically that here was the attachments and that there would be a webinar in October to explain things in more detail and we would get an email later with the date and time for that. There was an attachment of invoicing instructions to give the school (the same info as the link posted a page ago) and an attachment reiterating our service obligation. So, I assume there are probably several different 'caseworkers'. I am sure whoever you are assigned with will be emailing you soon. The 'from' was just by her name- not from the 'no reply at HRSA' that we usually get, so just be sure that you keep an eye out for any unfamiliar emails. I am not sure why those attachments were not also available on our portal-seems like they would want to link it up there too.

Ok, thanks a lot for the info! I don't know why they wouldn't just put all that info on the portal but I will wait and see what's sent
