2012-2013 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Application

Published

The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.

PrincessLayla,

Trust me we definitely know each other! At least by sight. Did you participate in the blood drive we had in April? I coordinated it, if that helps with identification. I know most of the nursing students participated either by donating or by volunteering. I work all day Tues and Thurs if you want to call or come by.

I was informed through the Business Office at the school I attend that there were so many applicants that HRSA ended up funding nurse practitioners as opposed to those pursuing bachelor's degrees. I don't know how true that is. So at this point I am going to assume that was she said holds true. I know that whatever God has for me is for me. I also know that with or without HRSA I will earn my degree in nursing. So my question is how many of you who received the scholarship are studying to be an RN or Nurse Practitioner?

Its says on the website that half the money was for nurse practitioners.

I was told that since there was a greater shortage of NPs that HRSA decided to award those studying to be NPs instead of focusing on bachelor degree seeking students. I hope that that's not the case.

I am studying to get my Bachelor's in Nursing and I was notified that I got the HRSA scholarship.

So I know this is stirring off topic a little bit, for those of you who already took the NCLEX-RN, how did you study???? When you guys studied from your Saunder's or Kaplan books, did you also refer back to your text books? Or did you just keep doing practice questions from the NCLEX books? I plan to take the test sometime in December or January and I just feel so lost how to study.

Everywhere i've been reading, people are mostly practicing questions after questions. But i'm not sure if they are also going back to their text books to read up on a topic if they didnt understand it, or are they mostly relying on the Rationales?

I am feeling 10x more stressed with needing to pass the NCLEX (since I was notified that I got the HRSA scholarship) and the need to have my RN license and to start working within 6 months of graduation. Please help :(

The Kaplan book/class/website is wonderful. The test is not just about what you know, but how you think. Know what is most important to act on first. Look at the Kaplan algorithms. You will do fine. Breathe and think.

Good luck,

I feel you too! I submitted all my paperwork on the 8th of August and haven't heard back either. My overall status still just says: "Accepted Award." Fingers crossed that we will hear back with our official letters soon! Only one more week!

I submitted my paperwork, the contract and w-4 on August 7th. Do you know when we will get FINAL notification? I called HRSA a few days after I sent everything and she said once we turn in our paperwork, we should hear from HRSA in 1-2 weeks after we submit our documents. Its been 2 weeks and some days, so I was just wondering if anyone has got their "FINAL" letter?

Nothing in my paperwork changed from when I first apply so I'm just confused what the hold-up is? I need answers!! lol!! :)

Oh one week??? For some reason I thought we wouldnt be officially notified until Sept. 30th. I'm just kind of upset that the lady told me 1-2 weeks after I submitted it. Oh well. I guess I just need to be patient (oh, but I cant! I want to know, now!) lol.

While you guys are worried about your paperwork that means you have already won. I am still praying for some sort of miracle to happen to me so I will get some sort of aide.

The only reason why I think it's one more week is because under the HRSA program info it states that "Applicants selected for an award will receivenotice no later than August 31, 2012." I have heard of them giving official notice in early September too though. This process really is like being on a rollercoaster ride!
