2012-2013 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Application

Published

The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.

Thanks! I'm from DC, 4.0 GPA and 0 EFC. I got the email at 4pm.

Ms. Sherman,

Could you tell us how long ago they checked your credit? Thanks.

They checked it July 17th

MsSherman,

Congratulations, and welcome to the club! The fact that you were awarded the scholarship should give hope to all those still waiting, more awards are definitely being sent out. On another note I love your pic! You look beautiful, congratulations on your wedding as well!!

Just signed up for the board and figured I'd check in here considering I've read nearly this entire thread.

MO student EFC 1300, with a 3.23 AA. (No credit check with Equifax, dunno about the other 2, I pulled a duncecap and didn't click all the boxes on annualcreditreport.com)

I called the other day and was told I was in "Final Verification" mode, so I don't know if that is different than "under review" or not. I assume it is essentially the same thing.

While I have the drive to present my skills to an under-served community, my community service is lacking aside from some inner city outreach in my early 20's. So if my application has any strength it's going to come from essays, and recommendation letters which I think were pretty snazzy. That's obviously just my opinion though.

At this point if I'm accepted for the scholarship (still got 10 or so days right!) that's great. If not, then at least I can feel good knowing that people worse off than me are getting an opportunity to excel.

I want to be a nurse. Given an entirely blue collar background working in the trades serving only my wallet, it's going to be a life changing experience to be completely self-less for once. Not getting the scholarship certainly isn't keeping me from that.

It's just too bad that people have to hang on scholarships like this because the cost of education is just so extreme, but that is a topic for another thread.

Cheers all,

-Sean

Hi Sean,

I really liked your post and I wish you the best in your schooling and future in Nursing. I will keep you in my prayers as I wait to hear anything as well.

I thought I had given this over to God several times, but after yesterday when my daughter broke her wrist at her first day of kindergarten and spending the morning today with her as she underwent surgery and casting, I have a new feeling in my heart that I know this (and everything else in my life) is in God's hands. I can only be the best I can be as a mom, a nurse, and a student.

Again, you are in my prayers, and congratulations to those who have already received good news this month.

Katie B, RN

Has anyone else received the scholarship that did not have their credit checked?
