The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.
To all,There is no problems at all, that was my point we are all in the same boat, going through the same thing. I appreciate everyone's input and advice!! I will continue to help in anyway I can and I hope to get the same from others. Again good luck to all, and let's keep the dialogue open.
Totally agreed:) now do you know about the teams?
agreer2,
Sorry I am not in the loop on this one. From reading the posts from previous years it looks like the country is sectioned off into different groups. I assume this is to make the process easier for them, or to make sure that they get all parts of the country represented. It did look like in previous years they checked credit based on colors, so that might be why some people aren't seeing any inquiries yet. I would like definite answers as well. Are they only picking so many from each group or do the top candidates from each group go into one group that they pick from? Confusing!
gregm890,
Your credit report is not just for credit cards etc... For instance your school loans are on your report, anything you filled out an application for that had a credit check involved. Any bills you did not pay or did pay, that includes hospital bills or even movies that you never returned to blockbuster. If it is worth it to a company they will report it to a credit bureau and it will be there for 7 years. You do have credit if you have ever taken out a school loan and that is what HRSA is looking for. They are not concerned about your credit score or whether you have credit cards or if you pay your bills on time. They just want to confirm that you have not defaulted on a government loan. Defaulting on a government loan will get you automatically disqualified. That is why it is good that they check your credit. After they have verified your application, and they believe you are eligible, they go to the next round of checking for defaults on loans. From what you said you seem good, as long as you haven't defaulted you got a shot.
