Air Force/Army FNP or NPs: Questions/Advice/Encouragement!
Hello! For those of you currently in the greatest Air Force in the World, first off I would like to say thank you for your help, service, and sacrifices... My name is Greg and I am a Family Nurse Practitioner Student with roughly 9 months of primary care nursing experience. I attended my college and graduate programs in Boston. I have no military background. I would just like to get an overview about the process of applying into the AF: from meeting the recruiter to COT training and how it has shaped your leadership skills in your respective disciplines. I understand that the process can last up to a year; however, I am planning on practicing as a civilian FNP for roughly 2 more years after I graduate in May of 2015. I have to give back 2 years of service as an FNP because my HRSA scholarship program requires me to do so... Along with the question regarding you leadership skills... 1. When do you think I should contact a recruiter and develop a plan for application? 2. For any AF FNPs out there... how is life on the base? How many years of service will you have to give back? ..and where have you been deployed to? 3. Is the COT really how it is made out to be? Or are there "curveballs" that made you have second thoughts about joining in the first place? Any advice, pointers, encouragement would be great! Thanks for your time,... and once again, thank you. - G

FNP Resources
Out of curiosity, I was wondering where everyone acquires updated, clinical and/or political information for Family Nurse Practitioners. Is there is a specific "app" or Journal subscription you have found consistently reliable? It seems like guidelines, clinical/political regulations, and scopes of practice change on a daily basis, and I would like a reliable source(s) to refer to so that I can stay consistently updated. Thanks! G

Nurse Corp Scholarship Finalist
chessi89 Yeah it really does seem like a long time. I believe they give you a lump sum of when your program year actually started and there is an ORC form to fill out for your school to check out to determine what constitutes reasonable payments. Facebook group is up all!!! Got it set up tonight! You can find it by searching "Nurse Corps/ HRSA Scholarship Recipients" or following this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/160281747505698/

Nurse Corp Scholarship Finalist
Hello all! Once again congrats on getting the scholarship! My Name's Greg and I would be more than willing to start this facebook group to establish continuity for information gathering, questions, and concerns. The group would be named "Nurse Corp Scholarship Participants FY2013." It is required that I have at least one facebook friend to add to get this group started. The issue is that I do not have any fb friends who are recipients of the Nurse Corp Scholarship Award! So we have a bit of a conundrum there. If one of you would be willing to add me as a friend under "Gregory Marcellin" I could as you as a friend, then get the group started and add everyone else! I really would like to see the continuity of this program in order for us to advocate not only for ourselves, but ultimately for those in underserved communities. In the meanwhile, have a great Sunday!

Simmons College vs Regis College Nurse Practitioner Program- BSN vs. no BSN
From de 2013 to BostonFNP, I see! Congrats with how far you have made it thus far! Like what you mentioned, this past year and a half have been much work, but I am grateful with the experiences I have had and glad that I have most of my pre-RN material under my belt. Taking the boards in January! How has things been with you post-NP school? Have you found a job suitable to what you wanted to focus on? Hope things are great post-NP school! Hard work pays off! Greg

What if you just dont have credit/credit card? Would a credit check not be necessary? haha im 21 and Ive only used a debit card for these past 4 years haha. Also I just graduated college and I am in a grace period in my loans so I definitely haven't defaulted any of them.

Simmons College vs Regis College Nurse Practitioner Program- BSN vs. no BSN
shane, the system will not let me send a private message! no concerns just all out of curiosity! just seeing if stresses can compromise the work ethic involved during this track. i don't want to see myself falling back because of stress. i also wanted to see if there was even "slackers" in such an intensive grad program. now finishing college, i have noticed that it is "hard to fail" and yet "hard to get an a" if you put in the work ethic involved especially with schools known for grade deflation. personally, (if i may ask) do you find it "hard to fail" and "hard to an an a" in class? are there times where you put in so much work and ending up getting a disappointing grade? it has happened to me just a few times in college, and i was wondering if this is typical in this grad program. thanks so much! greg

Simmons College vs Regis College Nurse Practitioner Program- BSN vs. no BSN
Hello de2013! I have one question regarding any cases where you have seen people drop out of the direct entry program. Is there a huge percentage of people who decide to leave because of certain personal reasons or the "overwhelming academics"? Would you know of the percentage of the people in your cohort who decided to leave the program? Thanks for your time, Greg

Thanks for all this man! Such a great help! I am feeling really good about this program. The environment seems very welcoming and positive. I promise this will be my last set of questions for a while!! If you remember, how was the fundamentals in nursing class in the summer? Was it challenging/nerve-wracking as the first nursing class? How do students usually do in this class? Also, what were some your highs and lows of the NP program? What were your hardest classes/clinical experiences during your time in the program? As a male in the program, did you feel as if you were treated different as the minority? Greg
