The application process hasn't even started yet but I didn't even find out about last year's scholarship until a couple days before the deadline. I did get my application in on time but was not fortunate enough to be a recipient. I intend to apply again for the upcoming scholarship. Any tips from those that were accepted? My EFC is 0, I'm in an undergraduate program, and my GPA is 3.4.
So weird!! I have a GPA of 3.2 EFC of zero and mother of 1 boy...not twins LOL! And thank you...I will pray for you as well. Yes, nursing school has been a life changing journey. Regardless if I get this scholarship or not...It is a HUGE accomplishment! (Especially for us momma's) My nursing GPA is 3.56, but 11 years ago (at the immature age of 18) I flunked out of college with a 1.4 GPA, which has hindered me from raising it. I'm an A/B student. I got my first C last semester in Mental Health... It was actually a very easy class, but we had a very difficult Heath and Illness class that scheduled tests the same day as Mental Health. Needless to say, I concentrated on Health and Illness MUCH more than Mental Health. I got an 82.3% and needed an 83% to get a B. I was soooo close.
Mental health was easy for me also. I didn't get an A but I will settle for a B. We are on the same grading scale also. I was a teenage mother:) but I overcame all or my obstacles. I am just ready to know and finish nursing school.
That's what I heard, but I know they take all candidates into consideration, especially people with EFCs of 0. I'm sure juniors have received it before so keep your head up. I almost didn't apply again because I was so let down after not receiving it last year, but everything happens for a reason. This scholarship has been swamped with applicants over the last few years. Just a couple of years ago...there was like 5,000 less people who applied. It's NUTS!
I am not concerned about the whole senior preference because it does not state anywhere that is the case. I am sure that they are picking the most qualified candidates regardless of what year they are in. Everyone applying should be in the same general area, we are all nursing students so we have decent grades, and good references. The differences are going to be small things like the top GPA's, the better recommendations, those of us who do a lot of community service, and the best essays. When you apply for a scholarship like this you have to go all out and put forth your best effort. Everyone believes they should get it and yes we all want it, but at the end of the day those who put the best package together will get it. Someone from my university received it last year and she was in her first year with only a 3.6 GPA, so who knows.

I totally agree with you. We can only pray that we will get it.
I completely agree...I think it solely depends on experience/GPA/reference letters/essays etc. I just mentioned that because that is what they told me last year when I called after getting my denial letter. I'm sorry if it came across wrong I've heard different things from different people every time I call. My friend that received it was a senior with zero community service but a 3.8 GPA and excellent references. There is really no true way to determine who is going to get it... it just depends on how they perceive you by your essays and references.
I think they look at GPA, but don't think scrutinize people for it...it's truly a case by case scenario. People's grades suffer from all sorts of hardships that cannot be avoided. I truly think they take that into consideration. I personally know several 4.0 students that are 'below par' (so to speak) and have poor compassion and empathy for people. It actually amazes me...especially being in the nursing field. These scholarship processes can seem so overwhelming.
Did anyone else watch the NSP webinar a month ago or so? I think it would answer a lot of questions for everyone!! I am not sure if it is still up, but if not you should call customer service and see if a link is available. A lot of this wondering and assuming will be put to rest. It did not answer all my question's, but it is nice to hear from the people that actually make the decisions.
