Can anyone tell me where I can find a listing of "health care facilities with a critical shortage of nurses." TIA

I got an email yesterday from hrsa indicating it is available. I started the process today. Has anyone been accepted to the nursing program or currently in the nursing program? That's the only hold up for me is the entrance exam and then I will know if I'm accepted. Let's keep posting in this thread on update, help filling out the info., and etc...

I'd also like to know if they have a list of the hospitals with a shortage that you might get sent to and if you have any option of picking somewhere close to home. At the age of 17 (almost 18), it's a little daunting to know I could end up in Puerto Rico, or Guam, or elsewhere.

hey everyone! I was wondering if any here is applying for the second time and having any issues. Mine for some reason is not allowing me to fill out this years application...it says everything is completed..isnt that weird? And it says I don't need to send in any supplemental documents. But I imagine that they would atleast ask for an update on school and banking info..right? Anyways anyone else applying for a second time let me know plz and thx.

I don't think they have a list of hospitals that I'm aware of. I believe you could work pretty much anyhere that has a shortage.

This is my first time applying. Did you get the scholarship last year?

You pick the hospital that you work at...it just needs to meet the critical shortage requirement. I think the link tells you how you can find what hospitals qualify. You don't get sent anywhere.... If you can't find anything, let me know and I'll try to do some digging.

I really want to fill out this application, but I was on unemployment last year and so they stated I had an EFC of $3,000. Does anyone know if I would still have a shot at being selected?

I guess technically you would have a shot in the dark, but in reality no. Scholarships are given to those with a zero EFC first, if there is any left, they are given to the ones with the lowest EFC first. But, from what I've read in past threads more people apply with a zero EFC than there are scholarships--so even those who apply with a zero EFC are not gaurunteed to get the scholarship. (Sorry)

I would try going to something like scholarships.com and looking for scholarships you may qualify for--there are so many out there, things you may not even realize. (I recently found out I was eligible for a couple scholarships because I have family that was in the confederate and revolutionary wars.

Unfortunately, it seems that you must have an EFC of $0:

"First funding preference will be given to qualified applicants with the greatest financial need (those who have an expected family contribution [EFC] of zero) and are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited undergraduate nursing program as full-time students. Because of the competitive nature of the NSP, scholarship awards since the inception of the program in 2003 have not gone beyond this funding preference. Therefore, please do not submit the BCRSIS banking information and supporting documents unless you meet the funding preference referenced above. In the unlikely event that the program would reach a lower funding preference, lower preference applicants will be given an opportunity to submit the BCRSIS banking information and other required documentation at a later date."

Yes, this is the same info. I read. I just think it is odd that I had an EFC of $3,000. This was based on unemployment from last year. What about this year? You know? I have been a student this past year working on pre reqs and I have paid for all of them with my own money which has been around $1500-$1700. This year, the school year in question, I have no income to speak of. I guess I am just confused. No worries. I plan to apply for it next year once I have had no income at all. Not sure how unemployment is considered a reliable source of income, since it is a temporary solution to an obvious problem i.e joblessness. I guess there are people out there who need this more than I do. I think it is an amazing opportunity and I will definitely look for more options. I too have relatives who fought in the Revolutionary War and Civil War...Where are these scholarships? Cool!!
