$23/hr office nursing

Hi! I'm a semi new grad ASN RN with 1 month SNF experience who just got an offer in the Sacramento area doctor office for $23/hr with the possibility of topping out at 26/hr after a year or so. Am I wrong or is that really low? Thanks!

A job's a job! It shall pay the bills.

$26 is not too low. I think CHLA starts their new grad in the high $20s... and that's the prestigious Children's Hospital of LA.

Pretty low but doctors offices will always try to pay you less than they should.

I applied and interviewed at a doctors office and the starting pay there was only $18/hour, so I think $23/hour is actually good.

That is a fair pay for a doctor's office. Im just curious, how much SNF pays you?

I personally think that $23/hr is insulting HOWEVER it is better then nothing. I have been working in a SNF for 3 weeks making $30 and was just offered a hospital position starting at $53/hr, day shift with ADN degree. The first job I accepted was in a clinic making $21/hr, I quit on my 3rd shift. I felt I was selling myself short and it was the best decision I've made. Gool luck:)

Keep in mind two things: $23/hr is better than unemployment, and you are a new grad so it's not as though you have the luxury to pick and choose your jobs--or the negotiating power to angle for a better rate.

Take the offer and start earning money and experience. Besides, unless medical practice nursing is your desired specialty, no one says that you can't keep looking for other jobs while you're there.

If this poster is in Cali, $53/hr doesn't go quite as far as you think, especially given the cost of living out here. Housing can eat up $1500-2000/mo or even more by itself, and don't forget utilities, food, transportation, etc.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of new grads would either kill or be killed to receive any type of nursing job offer in the Sacramento area at any rate of pay. The truth is that it is a very difficult area for finding employment due to the lack of nursing jobs. I would accept the offer and see where it may lead.

I applied to an adult day care health center and the pay was $23/hr for new grads. I'm currently working registry and I get paid $25/hr split because I'm a new grad and its a psych clinic. I'm happy with it though. Think about it as a stepping stone to gather experience so you can get that $40+ per hour job!
