How does YOUR hospital waste its money?

Published

Like most hospitals, we are overwhelmed with busy work courtesy of the state and JCAHO. Not to mention the resident families, some of whom are more work than their patient. But we can't get enough staff to cover all this so that the nurses can nurse. Costs too much. So it drives me WILD when I think about how much money they throw away every day. To name a few: carefully prepared supplemental nutrition shakes that get thrown out because no-one has time to feed them to the patients, silly little contest prizes to make their employees feel "loved", employee surveys (that nobody will answer honestly because too much identifying data is asked for) to prove everyone is deliriously happy, and of course the ridiculous advertising wars with the other hospital in town. How does your hospital waste its health care dollars?

And how much money was your "MBA nana", willing to pay these Citizen applicants for these jobs? This is an old argument, that is used by the CEOs of large corporations. It holds no water with me. They structure their salaries at slave wages, no benefits, and then cry to the governent that these are jobs that Americans won't do. Pay them a salary that is not slave wages, and you will be surprised as who will apply. JMHO and my NY $0.02.

I am so sorry that my post made you to react in such way.

1. Is possible that ALLIENS can have MBAs and have good positions, and they don't deserve to laugh of them, I am so sorry to read this. IS MY NANA and I am so damn proud of her!

2. Mexicans ARE citizens, willing to work here, and work GOOD

3. They have the same benefits and the same wages like anybody else and are not slaves ones, now depend what for you means for you slaves, lool

Like a good joke... for someone living 6 months on 5 stars hotel in Hawaii one time per year, each year, or is in rejuvenations trips as often as they could and working on high level positions with huge salaries just couple of months per year, spending money on private airfares.... FOR SURE that to work on employment wages scale...is a slavery...looooool.

We need here PEOPLE TO WORK and make profit if are profit organisations, not to spend money! Zuzi's 2 cents...A ZUZI ALONE without any others keeping her front neither protecting her back :lol2::lol2::lol2:.

Would you like to work with me for the salary that I work and I am happy with???? LOOOOOOL.

People who work hard don't deserve your irony...I am so sorry to see you like that!

Okay, people. Two messages from staff asking that we keep this thread on topic have failed to have the desired effect. This thread is being closed for a cooling-off period. When (if) it is reopened I caution you all to keep your posts on topic and discuss YOUR hospital's wasteful practices, not the problems of the entire country. If you are unable to do so, points will be assessed against offenders.

This thread has been closed for two weeks for cooling off. Hopefully the topic of conversation will return to civility and remain on point. How does your hospital waste money?

The biggest waste I saw in a hospital was at least 100 plasma TVs lining a hallway.

I had a clinical at a hospital that just build a big new cardiac center. It looks like a hotel. Apparently, family is encouraged to participate in care. I don't see how that would help things. I gave my mother a bed bath over the summer; it was weird. Meanwhile, my unit had 2 outdated computers, broken bp cuffs, and 2 pulse oximeters for 12 patients.

My place of employment wastes money every week when it pays my lazy manager.:chuckle

We have a new bedpan washer (like a dishwasher, but nastier), and it breaks down about every 48 hours. Rumor is it cost $50 000. Meanwhile the dirty utility room is so small you have to reach over the equipment to get to the counter. Luckily it's right by the kitchen, so you can fire your bedpan into the washer, then to reach a sink the kitchen is right handy to wash up in. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
