How did/Will you pick out your study group?

Published

I start school next week. Previously, in school I've never had a group, always studied alone.

I know the loud immature people are eliminated. But you can't just go up to people and say what grade you get... nope not you! Some people may get offended. I would! That is intrusive.

Do you like to gossip....nope not you either! Lol

I also don't want to get caught up in a click. I might want to switch groups if I don't mesh with them. It happens.

I'm generally a thinker not a talker so it takes a bit for me to start a convo. Once you know me I'm fine. But do I evaluate people pretty well.

Comments, ideas people. :-)

Never used a study group in my life. The only time I ever did anything school related with other people was when my hand was forced... like group projects. Ugh, those were the bane of my existence from elementary school through college. If you study better alone, study alone.

^This.

The only time I ever studied with my cohorts were my clinical group, or if there were study sessions ran by faculty; otherwise I studied alone.

I started my first semester and joined a study group right away. I left after 3 weeks because we didn't mesh well. I did better on my own! There is no hard fast rule that says you HAVE to be in a study group.

If you must form a study group, always pick smarter people who understands the material way better than you do.

Any other people is a waste of time. I learned this from experience.

If you get stuck with something, go to a tutor or instructor for clarification immediately!

If everyone abided by this rule, who would be in these study groups? Sally wants to be in Jen's study group because she perceives Jen to be smarter. But Jen doesn't want to waste her time with someone less intelligent so she doesn't want Sally in her group. Jen wants to be in Mary's group because Mary is even smarter but, again, the same principle applies.

I think study groups in general are a waste of time.

I don't recommend going into the year with a goal of starting a study group right away. Everyone is nice in the beginning, and everyone is trying really hard.

Just give em a month or two ;)

I like studying with people. I've probably studied with 15 or so people in my class. We just sort of happened upon each other in the library or we arranged a one on one thing or I studied with someone else's group. Some people I would never study with because they annoy me in class (if I'm constantly annoyed by your questions, we don't need to pair up.)

I learned who I could study with and who I couldn't through trial and error. I can't do huge groups. Even if they're awesomely on task, it's too hard to keep a giant group going at a good pace because people's weak areas will pretty much combine to be EVERY area.

I have one friend who I will always study with. We just vibe well. We encourage each other, think on the same wavelength, can teach one another, and make up dumb mnemonics and songs. We don't make the same grades on tests, but

And maybe 4 people I occasionally study with - once I've done my own pre-lim work because we don't nitty gritty the same way.

All that lengthy novel goes to say...trial and error. Don't necessarily look for the smartest, because that's not what it's about. Sometimes the "smartest" is really just a good test taker but can't work in groups to save their life.

I ended up in a great study group. We didn't pick and choose we just naturally gravitated together as friends and then started studying together.I found it a big help. We would discuss stuff and help each other with the stuff we each didn't understand.

I have a few friends in my program, so we always do studying together. I always send out a group text to my entire class for anyone interested in joining us. We only have 12 in our class, so it works out nicely.

You are definitely relatable I can tell by ya choice of words.

Giving it time is definitely something I will do. Actually, all of what you wrote seems like the best way to go about it.

Thanks girlie

Why start a group now if going solo has worked in the past? I never used study groups. I found them to waste more time than they helped. Actually most my class studied alone because we knew it worked better for all of us. We were too good of friends so we always got off topic way too fast
