It's in the title, but to reiterate: how do you view the role of nurses in health care?

This is a response I must include in my nursing application essay and I'm having difficulty figuring out which areas to highlight and what are the most fundamental things to note? any tips?

What do you have so far? What are your feelings about the role of nurses?

-caregiver/care provider - nurturing role, comforter, concern for patient welfare, direct care, respect for client dignity

-teacher-clear communication to treatment team providers, the patient and his/her support persons (family, friends ect.), helps patient learn about their health and procedures; assessments of patient's needs

-advocate- involved in concerns and acts in behalf of patient's welfare to illicit change, assist patient to exercise their right, ensures patient's needs are being met appropraitly

- counselor- assisting patients with stressful situations; emotional and psychological support; maintaing composed and skillful in difficult situations; promotes sense of self

-leader- influences others to work as a team in order to meet goals through strong interpersonal skills- gives direction, monitors, plans and delegates, or carries out tasks

Am i missing anything crucial? This essay must be 3 pages and I also must discuss my reasoning for wanting to become a nurse.

Thank you

I would suggest you look up the scope of practice of a nurse in your area as reference then use that and make a comparison to what you think nurses are personally. I find that in applications that require an essay, they usually like something personal.

In other words, write the connotation and dennotation meaning of nurses to YOU.
