Hi all!
I came across a few posts regarding stolen stethoscopes and was wondering how can that occur if our stethoscope is supposed to be on our necks?
Are there any tips for new nurses about to start clinicals that one could take to ensure that nothing valuable such as a stethoscope get stolen?
Only in movies and unrealistic medical drama shows will you see healthcare workers wearing stethoscopes around their necks all day for an entire 8 or 12-hour shift.I came across a few posts regarding stolen stethoscopes and was wondering how can that occur if our stethoscope is supposed to be on our necks?

I always have mine on my neck...as do most all my coworkers. However when I worked at my last job in rehab, I kept it on my med cart. It's now migrated to my neck as I no longer use a med cart.

I beg to differ. When I started in ICU 35 years ago, we all wore our stethescopes around our necks for the entire shift. It wasn't until about ten years ago that I stopped doing so.

True in my large, urban ED... hardly anybody is wearing a 'scope around their necks... if they've got one, it's in a cargo pocket or on a belt clip.

I have a pet tag on mine with my name and department on it so it can find its way back. I've seen MDs looking to return one but not remembering exactly who lent it to them (shears as well). So far it's always come back.
