How do you renew your LPN license?

I have received the LPN license on 10/29/2012, but the expiration date as of 01/31/2013 which is not even 4 month away. How do you renew the LPN license? Do you renew it after it expires? I'm so new to this and I don't know anything.

You will need to contact your BON. You will need to renew PRIOR to it expiring. You will also need to make sure if CEU's are required you have them completed prior to renewing as well.

wow... and I only have 3 months left... kind of ridiculous...

Some states give you a break and don't require it on your first renewal so make sure. And ALWAYS keep a copy of your CEU credits in case you get audited.

Some state BONs have renewal dates that closely correspond with your birth month. So, your license might be due for renewal during the month of March if you were born in March.

In my state LPN licenses expire in odd years and RN licenses expire in even years every two years, so mine expires 12/31/2013.

In my state every LPN license expires March of odd years. The expiration date should be printed on your license, and I've always gotten a reminder email when it was time to renew. If you just got your license it'll only be good until the next mass expiration. The renewal fee is nominal, for us it's $60 and the best part--NO NCLEX again!!!

Thank you all for the answers. Yeah I found out that illinois license expires on 1/31/2013 like you guys said its every 2 years.

You're lucky, I get to send in $350 every year and it has to be in by Dec. 1st even though the previous years license is valid until December 31!

In many states you can just go onto the BON website and renew right from there. Also, there's a lot of CEU's that you can get for free, however, there's also continuing ed available in booklet form, all your requirements in one booklet.
