How to be a Registered Nurse-Midwife in the Philippines?

Good day to all. I just want to know the process on how to be a Registered Nurse-Midwife here in the Philippines. I am already a Registered Nurse and I am planning to take the Midwifery Licensure Examination. I decided that I'll pursue a specialization of Nurse-Midwife. I searched through the internet and I found out that the requirement for RNs before taking up the Midwifery Licensure Examination is the Record of 20 Deliveries. I just want to know the format of the Record of Deliveries. Another thing is that where can I complete those deliveries? Fabella isn't allowing RNs to complete their midwifery cases there. Please help me. Thanks in advance to those who will reply. :p

Hi pogs2005!

Thanks for the infos, just few more questions. My friend told me it's fine to have the suturing and iv insertion in a private Lying-in as long as our cases for our handles must be from a public Lying-in or hospital. (BOM is strict about this because i think they are in doubt if it came from a private institution). In my case, we have our own Private Lying-in, my parents are both doctors. (this is the reason why I wanted to become a midwife also) Hmm.. My friend said that they get cases for suturing and insertion here even if the C.I. is only a doctor. Is it true? My friend told me that we just need to present the PRC license of the doctor and didn't mention anything about the certificate of training for suturing.

And about the 1 case per day, that would be difficult. It will take time and the deadline for submission will be this end of September and we're talking for 20 handles, 5 suturing and 5 insertion. That would be a problem!

Lastly, until now, I'm still searching for a hospital or Lying-in for my affiliation. Do you have any suggestion?

hi.. can I also add the 5 delivery cases I obtain when I'm a student nurse to the 20 delivery cases required to take the midwifery exam

Hi Cardiography! ANSAP has suturing trainings :) Call them for more info. My friends trained at ANSAP, they will be giving you a suturing license and certificate once you finish all the cases.

Can I ask that you do not post in text talk, we aim for a professional board as well as not everyone understands text talk

I'd like to ask a question.. i am a nursing student.. and i heard that some nursing schools offer that their nursing students be able to have the title of midwife as well (though, i am not well-versed on this topic..) then so, if my school doesn't put it in the curriculum that i should graduate midwife-nurse, but then i was able to accomplish the requirements of 20 actual deliveries(as a student), is there a chance that i may also sit in in the midwifery exam and take it? Is it possible to become midwife-nurse that way? thank you in advance..

Hello ..... I went to the PRC yesterday and I inquire about being a registered nurse-midwife....

They said that you should be a REGISTERED NURSE (not for nursing students yet), have your CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION WITH YOU (unfortunately i'm a July 2011 passer and the sched of release of my COR is on june 2012 next year..., Although i have my prc license with me, i'm still not qualified because the photocopy of my COR is a must....trivia: the Certificate of Registration is our REAL LICENSE and the sole basis of or professionalism, the prc card is the second basis..), Completed the 20+5+5 format ( 20 deliveries, 5 suturing and 5 IV insertions) The lady in the releasing window gave me 2pcs of this format, 1 for scratch, the other 1 maybe an extra but a friend said that the cases should be printed in a handwritten form, though i'm NOT SURE about that, somebody should please help me clarify this :nurse:)

I suggest you guys to go personally in the PRC. I went there yesterday at 5:00pm and they are about to close. Luckily, I was still entertained by the PRC and answered my queries. Unfortunately, i'm still have more things to ask but

its good to know PRC will entertain queries about this. i'm going to let my friend know. although she also just passed last july 2011... it'd be good for her to know all these first hand:)

better secure a copy of the guidelines on how registered nurses can take the midwife licensure exam.. you can ask a copy of that guideline to the secretary of the bom on the 3rd floor, prc building... follow those guidelines and adhere to those because BOM are very strict when it comes to cases you've actually handled..

hi to all!

I just want to ask if the review of the documents done by Board of Midwifery is too long? Because, I passed my requirements last Mar19,2012 as Nurse-Midwife and the PRC said that we will wait their text if our application is approved or disapproved by the Board. It's been 3 days since I passed all the requirements. Now, I went to PRC to ask about my application and they answer me that just wait for the Board.again! I don't know if I am going to review or not...:) By the way, the exam is on April 15 and 16...

nope. sorry nurses. only ladderized nursing/midwifery students are allowed to take te board. i think the last bAtch of nurses who took this exam was on nov2009
