I am finishing my last pre req at MCC and all the talk is, "Just wait til RN School, it is so much different, it so hard." Now, I know everyone is different and studying time varies., etc. Also, no offense to any RN's but a couple I know aren't rocket scientists and if they could do it I can to. I have a 4.0 and make studying a top priority. So RN students or RN's, what is your opinion. In what way is it hard? How is it different? Is it what you expected? Thanks for any info.
WCCCD nursing program is insane!!! Your first 71/2 wks. (1st semester) you have three classes, all of which are four hours long, two of them twice a week. Two of them have lecture and lab portions of the class. The amount of the reading required is heavy and to make matters worse you have an exam every week in every class. More than three wrong? You fail the test and that is just the beginning. Not trying to be negative but obviously all schools are different because there is not one person in my school's nursing program,or that has graduated from it that has said that "it"s really not that hard". Actually everyone i have talked to have said it only get worse, the further along you get. Me personally... i think it is all about time management and knowing how to study and knowing your learning style. Oh and do alot of n-clex practice questions, they will help you throughout it, all the way to your state boards.
3 wrong out of how many? Fail is what % ? You must be a genius to still be in the program. I do have a question though. Are the nursing classes like my A&P and Micro where we have to answer critical thinking questions and have no idea what is going to be on the exam? The only way I have made it with an A in those classes is to read everything 3 times and try to know every nook and cranny. How can 1 person have time or the brain power to do that with 3 classes?
Actually at WCCCD we had 3 classes two twice a week, Theory 2 hrs and lab 6hrs then assesment for 4 hrs once a week we had a QUIZ every week in lab and assesment.. 2 quizzes 2 exams and a final in Theory and it is MANAGEBLE not as difficult as most make it seem.. I did it so can anybody else.. and a 75% is passing.. It can be done!:)

I'm almost done at MCC and it is much easier than my previous BS degree! Then I had 3-5 classes at the same time including labs, which was much more time consuming, many more exams, and hw assignments. Right now it's usually one class at a time plus clinical. I work a ton, have an active social life, and do well in classes with minimal studying. Yes it is work, but no more than any normal full time college student would be dealing with.
Don't let them freak you out!
I agree with some above posters...wish I went straight in for the ABSN but at least community colleges are cheap as hell and my nurse tech wages cover the tuition!
