Out of curiosity, I'm curious how programs actually KNOW that you have completed the requirement. Is there formal paperwork your preceptor signs?

We use elogs by honor system. The professor also do a site visit every semester and do osce with one patient and has private conversation with the preceptor. The school also sends the office/clinic a notice how many hours we have done so far and I guess asks the office/clinic for confirmation. I don't have any problems with the hours because I also do more than what is required. :)

What would be hours that "didn't count"?
For example, i would get to clinical site early to look over my schedule for the day. They did not allow us to count prep time. They also didnt not want us to count time at the end of the day that were charting, etc. Of course the hours and hours it took to document in typhon couldnt be counted either, which that i understand but it was time consuming. We had to obtain data and do a soap note on every single patient we saw. It was quite tedious.

I know EKU uses a tracking device because an admissions' person mentioned it when I inquired about program costs. I don't recall the name of it but I'm sure they can tell you. :)

We use typhon to track hours and log patients. We have a once per semester site visit from faculty and our preceptors sign off/evaluate us twice at which time we have to express how many hours we have logged. A lot of it is honor system, but there are some checkpoints as well. We are also required to see a certain amount of patients per 8 hour day which keeps us accountable and not just sitting around.

I just don't see how this is going to work for my psych rotations. The doctor my friend and I will be following don't stay at one site for hours. They meet with each patient for 15 minutes if that, sit write orders and leave, or dictate on the unit. Then off to another location.
ella86RN, tried to send you a PM but your box is full.

I use typhon and my preceptor goes in and verifies the times also.
What counts towards your clinical hour? I saw someone post that there were a lot of exclusions as far as what counted toward your hours.
ella86RN, your clinical time is face to face time with the patient and any additional time outside of the patient room with your preceptor. Most of the patients are seen over 15 to 20 minutes and new patients take 30 to 45 minutes on average...at least in my area.

My program is online. We use typhon also, are time starts once we get to the site and ends once we leave. The only time that doesn't count is when consulting with preceptor. We get 1 site visit from one of the instructors. I know of another program were the only time that counted for their log hours was the time spent on the patient visit only, not charting or anything beyond that.
