Aloha everyone!

I am going into my second year of nursing and will be graduation in the spring of 2012!:yeah: I want to prepare for this coming year what should I do??? I kind of lost my studying habits could someone give me good ideas on their studying tips? I try to break down my reading, because they are so long, into the amount of days I would like to finish but don't really think that has helped. I also try to take notes while I study, but it seems as if I am writing the whole book (need help please), should I read first then note take? I also wanted to know where everyone studies best. I though I could study best at home, but I get so lazy and search the fridge more than anything. Please help fellow nurses!

Thank you!

I am also entering my second year of nursing school and will graduate in 2012! Can't wait. I am preparing for Maternity/Peds/MedSurg 2, by reading EARLY!!!! There are 24 chapters in our Maternity book - I'm reading one a day for the next 24 days and will have the whole book read by the time we start school in the fall I will have the entire book read and outlined.

I'm also reading all of the cardiac med-surg chapters and outlining them as well before school starts.

When I study I read & highlight, go back and make notes, and then I do the corresponding workbook chapters. I also write down anything my instructor says IN MY TEXT BOOK so everything I need to study is in ONE PLACE! ;)

I do fine studying at home, but I turn off all distractions including my phones. I study for 30-60 minutes at a time and take a 10 or 15 minute break just to give my brain a rest.

Good luck! :)

Tkm2005... I know I am asking tons of questions but how do you know what is important to highlight or note before class?

Well, since I am going to be a nurse, not a doctor, I focuse on the Nursing process for each disease I'm studying. You don't have to know every little detail of the disease you are dealing with, you just have to know how to optimally care for the person dealing with that disease. So focus on what you can do to HELP the patient, but make sure you understand the disease process as well! :)

And there are never too many questions, I love trying to help!

Specializes in LTC.

WE did peds and medsurg II for our second year too ! Just get the syllabus from the semester before and start skimming over the readings. I loved, loved , loved peds and medsurg wasn't too bad, challenging but doable. I'm going into my final semester this fall. Any advice on pysch ? anyone ?

I am preparing by working as an LPN this summer. I work in a LTC facility that also has a extensive rehabilitation wing. I am finding the application of fine tuning my skills along with medication pass is invaluable. Learning from the experienced RNs and picking thier brains is a real perk. We have heart problems, medication S/E, drug interaction, g-tube feeding, and lots of wound care. Don't be so hard on yourself over the summer. I will have clinicals, advanced skills and Community Health care concepts this fall. I have finished the rest of the classes this last year. I am really looking forward to the next year. I love every minute of it! Good luck to all of you!

Psych was my easiest rotation yet! I got a 99.75% on the 2nd exam!!!! It's a fun rotation, you'll love it!! :)

I just finished my 3rd semester and going into my last this fall ! :)) I didn't try to prepare early.. just went with the flow and week by week. For me getting ahead w/ out the lecture didn't make sense. Maybe looking up meds and nursing process would help. I did end up w/ a very good grade so don't get stressed out about what you don't know will be lectured. good luck!
