How are/did you pay for school?

I'd love to hear how you all are paying or payed for living expenses/tuition. Looking to get some ideas.

Here's my situation: no debt (other than 800 month for house). Just basic living expenses really (and like many, many Americans, excluding insurance). Got 20G's in an IRA, 8,000 in savings, and plan on getting max loans for the next 2 years.

State and federal grants, with the tuition left over being in amounts I can handle (this quarter after grants was $500, last quarter was $175). Next year I may attempt scholarships and/or loan forgiveness. Hopefully, I can make it to through to my C.N.M. without a loan, we'll see....

Loans...and they're running low!

Thanks for all of the replies. You are all an inspiration to me...really!! Sometimes I feel alone in the struggle. I'm a little reluctant to ask such questions of people I see day to day (some people get offended by financial questions). This way, you can answer if you want to and not have to worry about it.

Some of your stories seem so overwhelming to me. We're in this together, brothers and sisters in the good fight for a better and more rewarding life. Doesn't look like it's easy for most of us. I'm looking at 30,000 in loans when I graduate. Probably spend everything in savings and retirement. It's so hard as a parent.

So here I am...a male nursing student needing emotional support. What WOULD the family think of me? :)

I'm working 20 hours a week to help pay for our mortgage, car payments, and expenses. My student loan and the $1000 tuition reimbursment I get each year from my employer cover my tuition and books (barely). I plan to graduate about $25,000 in debt (plus the remaining loans from my first degree).

I was living alone and responsible for all my expenses. I worked full time while I got my ADN. I charged the first semester to credit card, then got scholarships after that. When I got my BSN and MSN my employer paid most of tuition and I continued to work full time. Not easy, but can be done.

I took every penny of money I could get my hands on... I qualified for Pell and Stafford. I also took the max in unsubsidized loans. It by no means covered all my expenses (other than school), but it sure helped. School loans are probably the 'cheapest' money you'll ever find.

Okay, I am looking at what some of you are paying for nursing school and find it amazing. Because I am in a 2 - year program (ADN) in a California Junior College, my tuition is only $26 a unit. I did my pre-requisites part time while I worked full time. Now that I am in the program I only work when I want to work. I am a nursing assistant (student) at a local hospital and I received a $3,000 scholarship from them to help out with my tuition and expenses. I have finished 2 semesters and have 2 more to go. I have absolutely no debt from school. Yay. . .

Hi all I am new to this forum....I have a couple of questions regarding my financial aid as of fall 2006 and spring 2007. I am right now finishing my pre reqs to get into nursing school..have financial aid for last term and this term. I will be finishing my pre reqs by summer of 2006. My question is when i go to fill out the FASA what do i need to put to recieve aid. I mean i will be trying to get into the nursing program but have no idea if i will be accepted. So when i fill out the FASA at the begining of 2006 so i can have financial aid for fall 2006 and spring 2007 what do i need to put down. Full time student or part time student. I am guessing full time student but if i don't get accepted what do i need to do so i won't get on bad terms with financial aid. I don't know what to do? Can somebody help me...:uhoh3:

im a single 21 y/o male, who enjoys long walks on the beach... ooops. i mean.... i dont have any loans at this time, more than halfway done my 4 yr program. i paid my tuition in full each time i got the bill because my parents didnt' help and i was left to pay it. i dont get any grants or loans because i work two jobs and make too much for a college student. i saved up like 20k+ while in hs and used that towards tuition as well as my income which makes up the difference. i pay about 1000 a month in other expenses such as my new car i just bought, insurance, rent, what not and the rest goes to tuition. i think i fair quite well for a college student who doesn't eat ramon noodles everyday. i think u have to start young if u wanna pay college, u cant just jump in and hope to float. its also easy when ur a workaholic and work lots of hours. in hs i worked 40 hr on top of school and extracurricular activites and now in college i work 40 and upto 60. decent money, but it takes a toll on free time and social life, but theres an end to all this madness soon enough.

I worked as a CNA 11pm-7am five nights a week, had classes from 8am-2pm four days a week, and clinicals anywhere from 20-40 hours a week depending on the semester. THEN I studied whenever I had a free moment. Dang near killed me. I went through a LOT of diet mountain dew and a LOT of Vivarin...

The good thing is, after that when I started working fulltime as an RN, I honestly felt like I didn't know what to do with so much free time!

I bought, remodeled and sold 3 houses and retired. That's Cali Bay-A fo sho...it was quite insane out here, but now the madness is tapering off.
