I've heard Margaret Fitzgeralds stuff is the best but seems like ANCC's stuff would focus more on the test content. I just graduated with my MSN FNP and want to get certified on the first try. Any suggestions?
Hello Candys,
I know your pain, I was miserable and a mess. I studied pretty much everyday. I actually made flashcards which is how I studied all through grad school, repitition, repitition. The hollier book is great, it is like a mini ferris which is what we used in grad school. I also did 1000's of questions before my first test which I think real hurt me. Get back to the basics and content it is my best suggestion. I also did a lot of praying for peace and calmness and I was much more relaxed the second time. I wish you the best. I don't know what to say about the test being similar, I have heard it could be a completely different test the second time. Just stick to the content and you should be fine. I wish you all the best:)
I am looking at applying for the reciprocity certification and I am just wondering what it consists of. Do we have to test with them or do we just fill out the application and pay the fee? Does it matter if you have tested with them and not passed? Any advise helps because I really dont want to retest again. I am currently certified with the AANP with FNP and would like to be certified with the ancc. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.
I got my FNP certification from AANP recently also and applied for AANC reciprocity. You don't need to take the test, just submit an application and fee. It is a relatively simple process, the application is only 4-5 pages and doesn't require submitting transcripts, etc. Just proof of AANP certification and state license.
I submitted my application on November 15th and my payment cleared on the 19th. I am waiting for my letter +/or certification in the mail. You have to do it NOW because it ends December 31st. From the ANCC site:
Effective January 1, 2011, ANCC certification by reciprocity will no longer be available.Nurses currently certified by another organization who wish to obtain ANCC certificationby reciprocity must submit an application by December 31, 2010. Applications received after December 31, 2010 will not be processed. The application can be found at:
Certification Applications - American Nurses Credentialing Center - ANCC
It doesn't mention anything about applicants who have previously tested with ANCC. From the application:
Reciprocity refers to the ANCC Commission on Certification policy whereby your certification with a different certification organization may be recognized by ANCC. ANCC may grant reciprocity to a nurse certified by another certifying organization in a certification specialty also offered by ANCC, subject to the following conditions:
> The other certifying organization’s exam is accredited by either the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) or the National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
> You hold a current certification with the other organization.
> You hold a current, active RN license within a state or territory of the United States or the professional, legally recognized equivalent in another country.
> You meet the required continuing education requirements outlined inside this brochure.
> You do not already hold a current or lapsed ANCC certification in the same certification specialty.
I would call them at 1-800-284-2378 (the # I need to call if I don't receive the letter soon) or send them an email ASAP. Good Luck!
So my friend said that she calls in prescriptions all the time because she does not have a script pad. I work for a wellness center where we do not prescribe medication and I am just wondering if it is okay to call in scripts as a liscensed ARNP. I know we can write/prescribe scripts but since I do not do so at my job I am just wondering the details behind it. I currently have a ARNP# and NPI# are there anymore numbers I need? In the state of Fl we do not write narcotics so I am assuming I dont need a DEA#. Any advice would be beneficial as I just received my liscense and dont want to loose it before my career takes off. Thanks!

Is it still taking 8 weeks for ANCC to process your paperwork, unless you pay $200 to expedite the process?
