I've heard Margaret Fitzgeralds stuff is the best but seems like ANCC's stuff would focus more on the test content. I just graduated with my MSN FNP and want to get certified on the first try. Any suggestions?
HELP
I am an old FNP graduated in 1998! I am starting life over and taking my ANCC exam in November. What percent right do you have to get to pass and do they tell you right away at the testing center if you passed? I am taking a review course, live, and have ancc FNP review and resource manual but dont see that much on professional issues and theory ARGGH any help would be greatly appreciated.
With the ANCC exam there are 175 questions, 150 of which are scored (you do not know which items are scored). The questions are weighted differently. There are 500 points possible and 350 is the passing score. When you are done taking the test, you go up to the exam proctor and they will hand you a printout which will give you your "score" and a "pass/fail". I passed the test the first time, but felt theory was definitely my "weak" area (they do not break down areas of weakness if you pass). Best wishes.
RE: Zenman's Question.
I agree with Newgrad 13 & Blessedx3.
Being in Canada, you have to wait a couple of months for the ANCC and your provincial jurisdiction to convene on the results; this process is quite lengthy. Luckily in the US it is ' on the spot' results.
THe ANCC's published exam reference guides on their website clearly lay out the structue & format of the exam for each specific subject area (Adult, Family, Acute care etc).
All questions are required; as well as a group of exprimental questions. The computer does not automatically stop during the exam.
I've heard mixed consensus on the 'results communication' process at the end of the exam session.
Some individuals have reported "tentative pass" which is displayed on the screen; others have not.
Their is a general consensus however, that the exam centre staff will run a final report (in the case of 'tentative'/otherwise) and confirm your status before you exit the exam centre.
They will verbally inform you Pass/ Fail.
You will probably jump for joy when they say 'PASS'!
You will receive a written confirmation in the mail with appropriate follow-up instructions
(to re-test or to register your NP license in your chosen jurisdiction).
Best luck to ace the exam, Cameron46 (I posted earlier on extensive prep/tips for success)
Hi, Im new to this site. I am very very anxious about my upcoming exam on 9/29. I took the AANP and failed 475/500. I was devastated and literally thought I was having a heart attack in the testing center. My new test is ANCC because like others I applied to two tests just in case. I have studied and am so overwhelmed. Everything is a blur now and Im getting upset. I have two days and rescheduling is not going to change anything. I am begging for some insight as to how to proceed over the next two days so I dont explode? Thanks

I tried to email you from here but cannot locate your email. I too failed aanp and am mortified, don't know what to, waiting to receive results. How long before you received results?
