i'll be taking the net in about 3 weeks. how was it? hard, easy?
any input would be appreciated!
thanks,
kimberly
I'm sure I'll do fine on the math section but I am pretty nervous about the reading section because I am not a fast reader. How long are the paragraphs that you have to read? Most of you are saying that you have a minute to per question so does that mean you have minute to read the paragraph and then answer the question?
Thanks for all of the input!!!!
Hello again!
You actually have less than a minute per question (33 questions, 30 minutes). Some questions have only one paragraph. You may have to answer three questions in a row immediately after reading three paragraphs.
As mentioned above, they will test you for one minute to see how far you can read into a passage. Don't let this trip you up to where you are more concerned with how far you read vs. comprehending the material. As far as I know, this one minute is part of the 33 minutes.
If I had to do it over again, in addition to the NET study guide, I would have read other nursing entrance exam study guides (forgetting the math, science, etc. and concentrating on the reading comp.). Study reading comp. until you are comfortable with what you may be asked about (main idea, inference, predicting outcome).
Remember to b-r-e-a-t-h-e (now and during the test )
You guys are so awesome! Thanks for all of the great info.
mytwosons- thanks for suggesting that I get other entrance test study guides. I have the NET study guide but I am going to the book store tonight to get a couple more.
Michelleicu - There are several nursing entrance tests and it sounds like your school reqires TEAS so you won't have to take the NET unless you are applying at another school that requires that specific test.

I thought the NET was a piece of cake. I purchased the book, skipped the reading and went straight to the practice tests in the back. I did well on them so I felt ready for the test. I finished with about 10 minutes to spare and ended up scoring 80% on Reading and 91% on Math. I thought the time flew when I was taking the test. Only one suggestion. Have a watch or clock nearby so you can pace yourself. A friend of mine ran out of time with 7 questions left on her last test.
I am horrible at math and pretty good at reading comp but I actually did better on the math portion of the NET than the reading comp. I made a 93% on the math portion. And an 82% overall (99th percentile). I would recommend getting the Study Guide for the NET-HOBET-HELP Entrance Tests by Educational Resources, Inc. You can get a used copy for cheap on ebay.

Hi Rn2be,
On the NET, the reading passages are broken down into a paragraph or a couple of paragraphs, depending on what they want you to answer. You do have a minute to "skim" the paragraph(s) and answer the question. The reason why, is because they give you the whole thing to read beforehand while you are taking the "speed reading" test. Then they go back and break it up into sections to reread and answer questions from. I didn't have any problems with time running out on me, but I do read fast. A friend of mine was only able to get through about 1/2 of the questions because she doesn't read as fast. Remember, though, it is based on how many you get correct, NOT how many you answered. So if you notice time running out, it is to your advantage to answer even if you can't read it all. Even if you have 20 questions left, go through and answer "C" on the remaining. You have a chance of getting some correct, whereas if you leave them blank, they don't count anyway, and could hurt you.
