How much would you have to win to quit working as a nurse? How much would it take?

If you won a billion dollars today, how many hours per week would you work as a nurse?

Someone recommended I ask this question instead of my previous one. How much money would someone have to give you in order for you to quit nursing forever?

As for me, I would quit nursing forever for the low low price of $100,000.

I would volunteer my time(more than now) and enjoy every moment. Figure I've put my time in and loved it but.....:rolleyes:

I have wanted to be a nurse since I was yrs old. I don't know if I could give it up. I also get bored very easily and would have to work at least per diem. I do like the idea of going back to school and further my nursing education.

If I had that much money, I'd walk away from any nursing job in a New York minute. Nursing is not exactly my life's passion, and I do this primarily to pay the bills.

My house in California skyrocketed in value over the course of 1 year, and I received a check in the amount of $126,000 upon closing when I sold the place 2 years ago. In my opinion, $100,000 is not enough money to prompt me to quit. I'd need at least a half million ($500,000) dollars before I'd even think about walking away from nursing forever. Even with $500,000, I'd have to invest it properly in order to keep the money from eroding in value.

Yep, $500,000 invested in stocks would give you about $50,000 annual income forever.

Ah I must be cheap lol $75K and I would go strictly per diem and volunteer. I won't EVER tear up my license though.

Actually, a simple total stock market index fund or exchange traded fund such as VTI gives a long term return of over 10%, so you would need only $700,000.

My plan is to retire by age 40.

If I won $1 million, I could easily live off the interest, pay my kids' debts, buy myself a house (finally), and save some of it. No more nursing! No more taking orders from the Man! :monkeydance:
