How much did your school uniform, name pins,b/p cuffs,patches,pens lights, stethoscopes etc cost you? was it expensive

I got my letter recently for my orientation and they told everyone to bring cash. I'm not sure how much everything usually costs. I know every place is different but I'm askin about the whereabouts.

At my school we wear a more formal all white uniform that we must order through the school designated uniform shop with our school name on it.

Uniform: $98 (2 tops, 2 pants and 1 labcoat)

Shoes: $50 (our choice of shoe as long as it was all white and not sneakers)

Clipboard: $10 (Walmart, has storage and a calculator)

Penlight: free (the school provided, but it's a disposable)

Penlight: $5 (reusable one)

Watch: $30 (w/ military time, date, day, and chronograph for easier vitals)

Tools: $20 (utility/bandage scissors, kelly forceps)

ID badge $10 (We have to pay this every semester, and it's included in our tuition)

Stethoscope $80 (our choice of brand and style, I opted for an Ultrascope)

Total: $303

I bought these items a few things at a time they were not expected right up front. The only thing we had to pay upfront for was the ID Badge and the Uniforms.

Piece of advise... set aside some money for a REALLY good, high quality book bag. Nursing books are freakin' heavy and most of the cheaper back packs and book bags will not hold up under the pressure.

wow lookin at all these prices are making me kinda nervous. I know I need these things though, I just wish they werent so expensive. hopefully it wont be to expensive.

If you have to wear white, I would invest in the 15.99 "Can't see thru me" pants. I got the 9.99 ones and they were VERY see through. I returned them the next day! The 15.99 pants are great, much thicker and softer too!;) ..............................................................

If not check out allheart.com and jasco uniforms online they have deals where you can get the top and bottoms for like as low as 9.99 a pair!

I've spent about $350 - 400 on the awful ugly uniforms our school makes us wear, shoes (definately get good shoes!), stethoscope (Littmann Lightweight SE II, so not a pricey one), BP cuff, clipboard, penlight, hemostats, bandage scissors, polo shirts and scrub pants we have to wear to our lab classes, and a few other little things here or there that i needed. Sadly, that was only for ONE uniform, and before I am done with school I'll have to get at least one more unless I want to wash it every day.

If you take a laptop to class like I do (for lecture classes) instead of a regular book bag, get one of the rolling laptop cases. I had a rolling bookbag, and it just didn't work as it was too top-heavy and it kept falling over and eventually damaged my laptop, so i ended up needing a new one. http://www.ebags.com has some really nice ones that are a bit wider and not as all, and they don't tip over. The rolling ones really save your back too, which you'll need for clinicals and once you graduate! :)

I have been searching everywhere to find the cheapest uniforms for school.. see my thread "Nursing School is soo expensive". I found a few sites that if you are allowed to wear your own scrubs and not buy school scrubs you can save a ton over buying at a local store. I am lucky that my school does not tell us that we have to wear certain colors as long as they fit right and can handle the abuse.

You are SO lucky! LOL. I wouldn't even care if they told us we had to wear certain colors, as long as we could wear scrubs instead of that awful nursing uniform! :)

I love ebags, I think I have like 5 bags from them for school through the years *nothing wrong with any of them I just really like shopping for back backs LOL* I have a couple rolling ones for laptop, I just upgraded to a 17inch laptop now though so I am going to have to shop for a bigger bag. I will be using ebags again.

Our uniforms we have to get from a specific shop and they aren't cheap, I think we only have to get our tops there because they are embroidered. Our uniforms are Cele blue, shoes have to be all white and can be sneakers if they have minimal colors.

When I first decided to be a nurse and started taking Pre Reqs I went a little crazy on allheart and ordered apparently 2 (I just found them still in the box) stethescops and the BP kit. I am guessing from the looks of it, one of my stehescopes came with my BP kit and I bought another one. I keep hearing about the Littmans though so I might check those out.

I start NS in August so now I am super excited to start buying my supplies, it makes it feel all real, I won't be going to order my scrubs though until the first week in august because I want to make sure they fit properly and I am in the process of loosing more weight.

* uniforms (2 sets: navy polo w/ school patch, navy scrub pants & navy scrub jacket) + white lab coat with school patch and a white polo w/ school patch = $200

* stethoscope (Littmann Classic II S.E.) = $74.95

* name pin: $5

* shoes: I have two pairs: Nursemates Dove (~$50) and Crocs Speciality ($29.99)

= $359.54

That was just a small "dent" though...books were about $1000 my first year! :uhoh3:
