How Much Did you Make as a Student Nurse Tech??

Published

I know after the 1st semester (at least here in SC), you can work as a student Nurse Tech at the hospital. I'm just curious as to what the range is for that, and/or what you made as a student NT. I'm just trying to figure out what kind of work I should do while in nursing school. I do have my CNA certificate, and could work at a registry/staffing agency PRN while in school. Just not sure what the better option is. Thanks!! :)

WOW, guess i should be happy with my 15 bux and hour SNT position, LOL.

Just curious for all those SNT's that work on the med surg unit. How much ass wiping do you guys do?

I just saw at a hospital close to my house (Los Angeles), the rate is a little over $13/hr, but you have to have been in RN school for at least a year.

I make 13.75 an hour and even though I am asked to do IVs, foleys, etc. I don't do it because it is not in my scope of practice! If something goes wrong...then the nurse is gonna cover themselves and place the blame on us. I've seen it happen before when another student put in an NGT in the lungs...ouch!!!

Specializes in ALF, Medical, ER.

I work in SC and I know that Nurse Techs make 9.50 an hour. It depends on your facility on what you will and will not be able to do.

Where I work the student nurses and PCAs have the same job... and on med-surg we do wipe an awful lot of rear ends! But I cannot complaine, the nurses I work with are really great at the moment, they ALWAYS wipe if they see the need when they are in the patients rooms! It really is a nice change of pace. I hate it when a nurse goes in to insert a foley, sees a messy patient and calls me in to do peri care so they can insert the cath! It would have taken less time to just do it in the first place!!!! I have 20 patients... you have 4! Take the eight minutes it takes to cleanse the peri area! Don't wait 15 minutes for me to be able to do it! AND DO NOT give me a stat peri care order and then watch me from a distance! OMG that drives me crazy! Ok rant over!:banghead:

I think of all those diapers my parents and grandparents changed for me when helping someone on/off the bedpan or changing incontinence brief. Glad i was able to return the favor when they became bedbound.

Tis sooooooo important to maintain skin integrity for hospitalized patients, especially the elderly. An ounce of prevention with incontient care will forstal 3 months to years of wound healing from incontinence and pressure ulcers.

Started at $2.25/hr in nursing home with 15- 30 pts on nights prior to the disposables now available. That was .50C increas over working at movie theater. Going rate for CNA's in homecare and SNF Philly area $9-$12/hr, $15 tops in Philly teaching hospital with at least 1 yr experience.

Still change briefs 35hrs later as RN occasionally in homecare....hoping someone will return the favor when I need the help in the future.

Michigan $16.46 + shift differentials.

Specializes in OB.

I made $18/hr as a student nurse extern in New York City. I'm not sure it would have stayed that high if I'd stayed on as a student nurse tech after the program ended, though.
