Does anyone know how much an ADN RN can expect to earn an hr at a nsg home in Texas? I have been there 3 years. My eval is coming up soon and I feel as though I got jipped last yr. I want to have all the data available for this upcoming eval. The home is appx. 100 patients. I am the only other RN besides the DON. I am starting my classes for my BSN in Jan. I work weekend doubles. I work most holidays. I do not get paid weekend differentials or evening differentials. The benefits aren't that great and the work environment isn't either. However, it suits my purpose right now. What do you think?

I'm from Texas and I doubt that you would make anymore than 22 dollars an hour at a nursing home.

The online survey type salary evaluations are dependent on a lot of factors, including the veracity of the data that they are based on.

To see what the going rate is in your area (or one close by), why not check out the classifieds and make some inquiries as though you were job hunting?

I'm not sure I'd necessarily list my current employer as "okay to call," but I think that's where you would get an idea of what is a fair rate of pay.

I wouldn't necessarily limit myself to LTC's, unless you feel the need to stay in that line of work. You've been at this a little while, doesn't sound like you are compensated at a rate commensurate with your experience and loyalty.

BUT the going rate is dependent on a lot of things--do a little research! You'll either realize you are getting a reasonable pay and benefits package, or learn that there are better opportunities out there.

Good luck!

The RN's where I work start in about 25/hr. I am a LVN and make just under 22/hr. Nursing homes are a place where you can name your price!!!

Have you thought about going into another area? Nursing homes are usually the lowest paying. Have you thought about going into the Home Health Care? I have quite of few friends RN's and LVN's that make good money in that field. Good Luck!!!

I'm an agency nurse making $25/hr (LVN) in home health. I decide the days & shifts I work (I home school my kids as well & love having the freedom of deciding my schedule). I used to work in LTC in Va w/ similar experiences as you & understand your side all to well. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Just wondering what do LVN's do in home health, I didn't know they hired LVN's. I am a student in LVN now and was just wondering? Thanks.

I live in Tx so that may be a part of why I was hired (diff states, diff rules). I can perform any duties in HH that my license states I can do (pass meds, drsg changes, trach care, draw blood, etc). As soon as I get certified in starting IV's, I'll be able to do them also. Home Health in Tx requires you to have at least 1yr hospital experience first (preferably Med/Surg experience) before they hire you. Good luck

I think you need a real job as in a hospital.

little to no room at all for improvement or advancement in a nursing home.

so what is your purpose for being there

Thanks for answering my question, I had no idea that an LPN can do all that in home health, just another quick question for you? What is the starting salary? Benefits in home health, I am asking this cause I am considering home health after I get my experience in at the hospital. thanks in advance.

the agency i work for (maxim - they're nationwide) starting hr pay (no salaries) is $16 for 1 pt (work w/ 1 pt entire shift) or since my pts are siblings, $25 for 2. i have full med/dental/vision coverage for my family. call diff agencies in your area though, their policies may be different. i hope everything works out for you.
