  1. my dad sees a Chiropractor named Dr. Longenecker - dad says he's the best
  2. When I was pregnant w/ my son, there was a lady who was almost due. She was having a girl and when asked, said she was naming her "Gonorrhea". I asked her if she knew it was name of an STD and she said yes, but that she was going to pronounce it differently (Ga-NAH-ria) - poor kid. I also used to work for an ob/gyn doc - here are more names - Nevaeh (Ne-VAY-ah) Heaven spelled backwards (I liked this one). Family whose last name was Green dad: Forrest, mom: Esmarelda, kids: Hunter, Kelly, Oliver David (OD) or olive. went ti school with a girl named Ima June Bugge (last name not pronounced bug):rotfl: :rotfl:
  3. you should get bonus points for a graceful execution of a gymnastics routine while maintaining integrity of said donut.:rotfl: :lol_hitti
  4. I know how you feel - I did the same thing for the same reasons - I now have the freedom to choose the days, shifts and locations I work. If I don't feel comfortable working at a particular site, I have the freedom to decline. my work schedule is now on my terms, I no longer feel that my hard-earned license is in jeopardy, and a lot of my work-related stress has been greatly reduced. I also enjoy having the freedom to choose if I want to work weekends or holidays instead of being forced to work or being made to feel guilty for not working. melody
  5. you'll need to change your name to "the Sandman" I'm an LVN of 9yrs - going back for ADN in the fall. for same reason as everyone else - more money and opportunity for advancement. LVNs do get more clinical experience, but RNs' pay is almost twice as much as an LVN.
  6. the agency i work for (maxim - they're nationwide) starting hr pay (no salaries) is $16 for 1 pt (work w/ 1 pt entire shift) or since my pts are siblings, $25 for 2. i have full med/dental/vision coverage for my family. call diff agencies in your area though, their policies may be different. i hope everything works out for you. _______________________________________________________ we, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. we have been doing so much w/ so little for so long that we are now qualified to do anything w/ nothing. - author unknown
  7. First, Thank You Everyone for replying to this post. Sorry it took so long for me to answer your comments (computer was down). Any way, the instructor said that we needed to be cert in CPR prior to entering LVN program then this person asked her question (the program I went through, we also were taught 1st aid 1st semester - instructor had just finished telling us this) I'm sooo sorry for making initial comment out of text.
  8. I live in Tx so that may be a part of why I was hired (diff states, diff rules). I can perform any duties in HH that my license states I can do (pass meds, drsg changes, trach care, draw blood, etc). As soon as I get certified in starting IV's, I'll be able to do them also. Home Health in Tx requires you to have at least 1yr hospital experience first (preferably Med/Surg experience) before they hire you. Good luck
  9. true comment: a prospective future lvn asked the head instructor for the lvn program "do we have to be certified in first aid also?" it was this person's 5th time trying to get into the lvn program - scary - thank god she didn't get in. talk about giving the nursing profession a bad name!!
  10. Maxim agency has GREAT benefits w/ diff ins pkgs to choose from. I'm agency fulltime & love it. I chose the pkg w/ the highest premiums but have no ded. OB is covered 100% w/ $20 copay (1st visit only) hosp covered 100% w/ $175 copay 1st night. Much better than 80/20 plans where you still have to meet the deductible 1st. Maxim & Favorite Nurses are nationwide agencies (if you're an RN, Fav Nurses has better benefits than they do for their LVNs) I have family coverage & almost everything is covered. Good luck & congrats on pregnancy
  11. I'm an agency nurse making $25/hr (LVN) in home health. I decide the days & shifts I work (I home school my kids as well & love having the freedom of deciding my schedule). I used to work in LTC in Va w/ similar experiences as you & understand your side all to well. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
  12. you know you're a nurse when:when drawing labs (the blood is soo cloudy that it's WHITE)you and others in the dr's office play "guess the total cholesterol level" (highest total chol ct of 800 was guessed) actual result was 820 - pt had no complaints & was in for WWE & >40 labs (CBC,CMP, FBS, TSH) she was told to see her PCP ASAP
  13. loved them all, experienced 1/2 of them as a student (now work in home health) loved #22 :rotfl:
  14. written on a chart in an OB/Gyn's office: f/u ck up was supposed to be: follow up check up (nurse who wrote it was notified) doc had to be notified of error since she also documented on page. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  15. AMEN to that!!! (I'm an LVN of 10yrs soon to start school for ADN - BTW LVN's receive more clinical training than ADN's or BSN's)
