What are some things you could do preemptively to maximize your eventual income, particularly as an FNP? What are some financial/career information you wish you had learned earlier? Once you are practicing, how can you increase income. Side gigs? PRN work? Curious to hear your thoughts. I know we aren't doing this job for money, but might as well aim high. Thanks in advance!

This guy seems to get it - although I wonder how he and his "elite" followers are sleeping at night with what they are doing. But if $$$$ is only one problem, here is the good place to start.

Yeah. TBH there is a lot more money to be made in the influence/follower space. There are counltess buffooons on Youtube making more money then most MDs will ever see. I am planning to do something (not in the medical area) but because I know that it is "easy" to brand yourself nowadays, and that brands pay good money to have their products promoted. Wish I started years ago, since it requires grinding. Always just been too busy. One idiot out in Cali who has no formal education makes 5k each from 2 brand deals that let him manage their online marketing.
I mean hell, there is a pharma sponsored dinner here nearly every night of the week for us providers... LOL Teva pharmaceuticals gave 2 free (prime steakhouse) dinners this week and I can't even prescribe yet ?
But yea, most can ideally leverage their hopeful DNP paperpiece into some sort of side gig. Maybe l like a concierge weekend service that's cash only or something.

Passive income takes a lot of up front effort but once it gets going can work well. I created a downloadable spreadsheet for information about NNP schools and am about to publish my second book of review questions for NICU nurses taking their certification (RNC or CCRN). I also have an online video review course in the works.
I’ve only just made a profit of $9 LOL but I had to use my initial sales to cover about $900 of start up costs like website hosting and design, marketing, book printing, business license, etc. I’m looking long term that once the materials are all completed I’ll be making more $$ with little effort. Should take about a year or so to fully finish everything. Maybe it won’t pan out, but it’s been a fun side hustle and feels good to contribute to my profession.

that’s a good idea to do something both contributors and also enhances your own practice as it forces you to continue to evaluate New ideas and continued education.
Sometimes I feel with all the epic smart phrases I’ve made for myself and shared with colleagues, I could make some coin selling them on the side. LOL

@djmatte LOL! Me too. And speed buttons. Sadly I’m sure Epic would frown upon it though.

yeah, I do the same thing. It used to take my group take 5-10 minutes to write a delivery attendance note and I created a note that is billing compliant that takes about 15 seconds to left/right click 1-2 things and smart blue links for the rest (unless delivery is complicated, but most of the time my attendance is a "just in case due to high risk" scenario).
To be fair, I have used the Epic community library for ideas that others have shared. I like the idea of community pooling resources for spending less time on EMR which = more time with patients or more patients in general.
