...As federal law enforcement assesses the intelligence failures that left Congress unprotected and tries to sort out the myriad crimes captured on videotape, the challenge will be developing a prosecution strategy that serves to uncover the truth about what happened and that holds those responsible accountable. There will likely be simultaneous investigation into different groupings of criminal conduct.
First, there should be a much-needed hard look at whether there are people who should be held responsible–in the criminal sense, not the political sense, for the need for the latter seems quite obvious–for Wednesday’s events as organizers and leaders of the insurrection. There will also be people who committed serious standalone offense that involved violence and risks to public safety. And there will be a group, likely the largest number of people, who overran the Capitol and need to be held accountable, albeit at a lower level, for their acts....
1. Seditious Conspiracy
It’s a crime for two or more people to agree to try — they don’t have to actually accomplish their illegal objective — to interfere with the central functions of our government. The statute specifically contemplates that it’s a crime to delay or hinder the enforcement of laws, and since the goal on Wednesday was to prevent Congress from formalizing President-elect Joe Biden’s win, it’s possible that on the more serious end of the spectrum, we could see charges of seditious conspiracy, which carry a 20-year maximum sentence.
2. Solicitation
Solicitation is a crime that involves procuring another person to commit a crime for you.
3. Homicide & Assault
4. Possession of Firearms & Explosives
5. Interstate Travel in Aid of Racketeering
6. Restricted-Area Violations
7. Local D.C. Vandalism & Trespassing Provisions
QThe reason in my humble opinion that enablers need to be held accountable is stop the advent and progression of obviously returning facism.
All over the world it's already been embraced. Erdogan, Bolsanaro, Oban, the polish leader (can't remember his name) Dudak I think, the British leaders Johnson, Dominic Raab, Italy, Putin, Philippines, China, Indian Modi, all are flirting with authoritative rulers. And we all know what happens to fascist regimes.
With the pandemic, comes economic insecurities and 78 million in America who weren't supposedly that ignorant, worldwide will succumb to the rhetoric.
Fascist people do not care about others. They are only interested in power and control. They will lie cheat and kill for it and with so many people suffering and ignorant, it will be easy to persuade them to sign on. The first victims will be the others. Hispanics, Jews, Blacks, Browns, then women etc etc. Just look at the woman who was killed in DC. Armed forces, small business owner, but so compromised that she fell for QAnon speil. 78 million people are an extremely dangerous group especially when they embrace violence as easily as we have seen.
In this country that subscribes to Hollywood and television and influencers as easily as it does, social media platforms need to be held accountable and regulated quickly. Just as the Boston teen was convicted for influencing the other teen to commit suicide, I think that anyone spewing hatred or lies needs to be reigned in.
There is no free speech without consequences. It's meant to express a point of view, to communicate an idea and there should be consequences for disseminating lies and disinformation. Ask Goebbels how effective propoganda can be. And I am absolutely sure that Cruz and Hawley know all about Goebbels and what he did.

Yep.
But there's low hanging fruit.
Isn't it stunning that Senators who literally furthered the same Trump's lies, in Congress, that were used to inflame the insurrectionists and rioters, want the public and liberal legislators to calm down and just get on with that forgetting and forgiving stuff? It's remarkable.
It's important to remember that the Republican party didn't even bother to develop a party platform this year. It was all about Trump.

We need a credible and comprehensive record of one of the most dangerous presidential transitions in history.

What exactly has happened within top levels of the United States government since the presidential election of Nov. 3, 2020?
Once the transfer of power to President-elect Joseph Biden is complete on Jan. 20, the immediate crisis will pass. But the questions about the actions of President Donald Trump and his surrogates in what now counts as one of the two or three most dangerous transitions in U.S. history will remain.
No previous transition has raised similar doubts about whether the executive branch, including the military, is being run with a clear and lawful chain of command, with a psychologically competent individual at the top.
It is imperative that a multitude of urgent questions be answered in a comprehensive way, by an independent body with subpoena power to review documentary evidence and compel testimony under oath. The crisis Trump initiated needs to be examined with the equivalent of the 9/11 Commission established after the 2001 terrorist attacks....
I'm worried about Garland as the AG. I fear that he might be too principled to go after the many criminals in the republican party. There's simply too many to mention. I am only happy that the Lincoln Project appears to be trying to reform the GOP.
What's needed is for corporations to be held accountable. All that donate or support the senators and lower house members that have been supporting Trump, needs to be cut off or the public will hold them accountable.
Biden's cabinet picks so far appears to be consummate professionals which is needed to deal with covid and the economy. But his justice Dept needs to be enforcing in such a way as to dissuade in the future, any mal behaviors from politicians. There are too many republican politicians in the wings that appear to be authoritarians. They need their wings cut!
