I am preparing to take the final exam through the state for my CNA. It seems like they like to fail people for little things. Anyone fail the first time?
Mistake like forgetting to lock wheels, dressing at wrong side, etc.. happens due to being so nervous that you can't think. I think practicing physically would help a lot. I am going to do that. Pretty sure that I am going to pass next time.. where I live is easy! Only 3 skills including handwashing. I got pulse and dressing along with handwashing.. I can't believe I failed.. I didn't get the results, but I am sure i did fail.. This is how I am at first..now that I am familiar with that place, etc.. I will be prepared. :) I deserve to fail for making mistakes! I took it today and when I got home I realized that I dressed at the wrong side.. I was like.. dang it, failed. I am still happy because I have 2 more chances. Hopefully I passed the written test. I didn't practice enough..
I failed the first time. However, my friend passed the first time, as did the other person I was testing with. The written is the easy part, the skills can be a little complicated. Luckily, I passed on the second time.
Good job! I think it gets easier at the 2nd try because you'll know what to expect. :)
I drew vital signs an one of my skills and the peorson had a very hard to hear BP. It was not accurate and I failed.I passed easily the second time and am an excelent CNA and I love my job.
Good luck and don't worry to much!
This part worries me. If the person has normal vital sounds, I can pick pick it up.
I practice on my 82 yr old mom and hers are very hard to pick up and I often lose them.
It is the little things I worry I may forget. (My test is August 2nd) - To the original poster -
I made up index cards with obvious tasks that that may be forgettable.
For instance: Index cards that state: * WASH HANDS*
* GREET PATIENT AND INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND EXPLAIN
PROCEDURE* (EYE CONTACT)
* LOCK WHEELS ON WHEEL CHAIR*
* HEIGHTEN BED*
* PRIVACY* (Close Curtain)
* CALL BELL*
* LOWER BED*
* WASH HANDS*
Hope this helps :)
I failed the skills test the first time but passed the written. I didn't take a cna class, im in LPN school so I didn't really know the info on the written test as well as I thought I would so I was suprised that I passed it!!! In Virginia on the skills test we have to perform 5 skills and one of them of course is always handwashing. Also, we can take it as many times as we want... no limit. I passed ALL of my skills the first time except pulse!!! I kept losing my partners pulse and my count was off by too much. I passed the second time though and I am about to start my first job!!! Good luck and try not to let nerves get the best of you. I agree with one of the previous posters that said nerves can affect your memory!!!
Oh I also wanted to add that when I took my test for the second time almost everyone failed including my partner. I felt so bad for everybody. Myself and one other girl were the only ones that I know of that passed. After the skills test while we were waiting for our results they made us take a survey on the effectiveness of the program we attend/attended because so many people in Virginia have failed the test.

I was too nervous to count the pulse, so I screwed up. I am going to practice pulse with my actor. :)

That suck! It is very easy here.. :) Even the students who was in my class got easy skills. They all got pulse.. I think I might get pulse again since I did bad.
Two of my co-workers failed the state exam TWICE before they passed -- both of them are now really terrific CNA's.
Aw! Good to hear that. I am sure I will be a good CNA because I love people and care about them. All I need is to pass this CNA state exam in order to do that. :) I am patient.. I have to wait for the results and then retake. Some students in my class passed in the first try! And not me. :) They were slower, but smart. ha ha. I did as good as them.. :) Can't believe I did bad.. They did studied though.. but not me at all.. I couldn't I had nobody to study with. You think it is better to study with someone where I can do some skills on them. Not bed bath, etc..

Really surprised to hear someone failed occupied bed for not putting a pillow between the knees! I had occupied bed and there is nothing about a pillow on our state test in WI. I passed my skills on my first try, but my partner that day failed because she forgot to lock the wheels on the wheelchair. I felt so bad for her
