Here are my answers -

1) What type of setting do you perform nursing? Med/Surg

2) What type of nursing care do you perform - team nursing, primary nursing, or other? Both team and primary

2) How many patients do you care for usually per shift? With team - 10-14 patient, With primary 5-7 patients

3) What is the maximum amount of patients do you care for? Team - 14, Primary - 7

4) What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Good support system of other nurses, daily debriefing with mother (who is also an RN), and sleep

2) What type of nursing care do you perform - team nursing, primary nursing, or other? When we have the staff it's team nursing, more often than not ALL PRIMARY

4) What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? My fellow co-workers, other nursing friends/family, and sit down and take a deep breath and then get back out there.

2) How many patients do you care for usually per shift? 5-7, on very rare nights it might get to 8 before the shift ended. That was rare though.

4) What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Co-workers, taking a deep breath, having a very colorful internal monologue going on in my head. :p

4) What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? try to stop and organize myself so I can see what tasks need to be done. Ask for advise/help from nurses around me, from my charge

23-27! Omigosh! That just sounds so overwhelming. Not all at once, right?

Yep all at once, but it's not like what you might think. These are physically healthy teenagers (we have asthma, occasional broken bones from fights, lots of psych meds to pass, etc) but its NOT the same as working in a hospital. At night they pretty much sleep and during the day there is 2 RNs with 3-4 mental health techs.

2) How many patients do you care for usually per shift? Usually 2, and occasionally 1 if the patient's higher acuity or I'm open to admit. On rare occasions two nurses to one patient... where the 2nd RN is operating CRRT or a level 1 infuser or something of that nature.

4) What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? I have a really good support system in the other nurses and our clinical coordinators, so I've always got backup.

4) What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? We have 2 free charges to help.

1) What type of setting do you perform nursing? Medical-Surgical/Oncology (we give inpatient chemo)

2) What type of nursing care do you perform - team nursing, primary nursing, or other? Team nursing - we divide the 36 rooms into "carts", and each cart has one RN, one LPN, and one CNA.

2) How many patients do you care for usually per shift? 9-12, depending on the number of RNs on shift (4 or 3)

3) What is the maximum amount of patients do you care for? Usually not more than 12, though one Saturday we only had 2 RNs, and so we each got 18!

4) What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Ask for help, delegate, make a list of everything I need to do (helps me feel more in control, especially when I know I'm not forgetting something!), sit down and take a timeout!
