Hi,
Does anyone know how many hours are required for registration in Victoria?
In the EU (EU Directive) it is now a minimum of 4600 hours over 3 years, with not less than one third theory, and not less than half clinical.
I'm educated and registered in China, and since a few years also registered in Ireland. Working as RGN at Mater Hospital, Dublin. However, Victoria (NBV) is still asking for transcripts and total of hours. Before paying fees for application and translations want to know if I do qualify.
I believe they follow ANMC guidelines? Can't find any specifics on either their websites, or on Google/Yahoo. Am I overlooking it?
Thanks

Check the international section of the Australian Nurses and Midwifery Board. http://www.anmc.org.au Also check the nurses board of Victoria site. http://www.nbv.org.au/
Individual universities may also be able to help you...
Sorry, I did check both websites. Also searched with Google and Yahoo. Nothing came up. Universities I aproached didn't have that kind of information, or at least they couldn't tell me. They knew more about their own requirements and were not sure about my question.
Thanks...
Anyone?
Maybe the way to go would be to ring individual hospitals and see what programmes they offer. We have an overseas nurse programme at Royal Darwin Hospital in the Northern Territory. I've seen nurses from India, China, Indonesia, the Phillipines go through this programme. And I'm sure there is university training attached.
As you are aiming for Victoria, maybe it might be an idea to check what certain hospitals may offer. I'm surprised that the ANMC were unable to help! What about checking with the Immigration department. Australia, like every other country, is desperate for nurses...
This was their reaction: The ANMC are not involved with the registration by the respective boards. They merely assess suitability for immigration. Therefore, to get this information it needs to come from the board.
Unfortunately I can't find it on their website, and I can't get through on the phone. Because of the time difference I don't want to keep trying all night to get through.
Seems these requirements are not known by public....!?
If anyone can give some more info on it, great.
Thank you...

You will need to access www.nbv.org.au to obtain information about nursing registration in Victoria. Read their assessment criteria. Email them if you have any questions. All the nursing boards have some different criterias or requirements at present.
