  1. I called the CNO today and they told me they have to wait until enough nurses write it so they can compare our exams. But they said they still have no idea when that will be. This is the only part of registration i am waiting for so i just hope it does not not a long time because i really want to start working. For what to focus on i would say have the study material in front of you that they recommened on the cno website there is a lot on the scope of practice for RN,RPN and NP.Hope this helps.
  2. I feel the same as the previous comments. I am a Canadian trained nurse who wrote the jurisprudence exam last wednesday. I found that exam absolutely horrible, It was such a stressful 3 hours, i was blurry eyed by the end. Some of the questions were basic, but i thought a lot of the questions were really unfair. I mean who can memorize that much about acts and legislation, some of the study materials for them are 30 pages long! Im pretty sure even ontario trained nurses would have trouble with this exam. It has been nearly a week since i wrote it and have still had no response of my result. i called the CNO to see if there is a general time it is going to take to "review" and the customer service just say what they always do, they told me to keep waiting. This is pretty much the last part of my registration and it is holding it up, if they were not prepared to give results in a timely manner they really should not have started this so soon. Just cause we are some of the first nurses to write it, doesnt mean we should have to have to suffer the consequences of them being disorganized. I will let people know if i ever get a result.
  3. Hi, Im a canadian nurse thinking about doing some more travel nursing. Just wanting to know if anyone has any experience working in Bermuda hospitals and what the healthcare is like.
  4. Hey, im also from canada and worked in vancouver before coming to auz about 6 months ago.oh how i miss making the money i made there. Im year 4 and only make 25 dollars a hr compared to my 34 i was making in canada. Its hard taking a pay cut thats for sure. It is a great country here but would probably take you a lot longer to pay off your loan here. I live in melbourne and its really expensive. The nursing is also very different here in general, i found this at least. But you only live once and you could always come on a working holiday visa and do agency work, and see if you like it. i did that the first few months and it was 32-36 dollars a hour, so they paid better.
  5. Hi, im canadian and have been working in melbourne for 6 months, i was doing agency at first which was great cause i could pic when i wanted to work. But now i am somewhere permanent and to stay with my sponsership i have to stay full time. But here unlike canada where 12 hr shifts are usual, 8 hr shifts are the norm here, so since i must do 80hr a fortnight and never get the same days off sometimes i end up working for 7 shifts straight then only 2 days off then another 5 shifts in a row. By the end shift i feel like i have so little emotionally to give my patients cause i am just drained in myself from being in the hospital so much. Im use to doing four 12 hr shifts and then having 4 or 5 off. I much rather just do a clump of 12 hr shifts and have more days off than doing shorter shifts. Are there any other nurses who had trouble adjusting? Im hoping i will just get use to it after a while.
  6. hi, just saw your post.I had a very difficult experience with irish nursing board.i needed the adaption program to get registered (after nearly a year of waiting for responses from the board) i think i emailed every hospital and clinic in ireland with my resume and nearly all said they were not taking any new applicants in the program, and others said they were not doing adaptions programs at all currently. I got so fed up that i scratched the idea, and applied to the victoria nursing board in australia and got registered and i am leaving for melbourne in a month. Its a shame, ireland is one of my favorite places in the world, and i was really looking foward to working there, but the healthcare system is a mess right now. But this was 8 months ago, so you might luck out and find something.all the best.
  7. I am doing the kaplan nclex online prep course, what are non-US ore US trained nurses experiences with it in compared to how they do on the NLCEX, because i am doing some of the quizzes and my scores are not the best.
  8. Hi i just sent in my documents to the vocitoria nursing board that were all witnessed by a notary and they just sent me a letter back saying that they were not correctly certified. I am still waiting for them to get back to me about this but i dont see what i did wrong or what they are looking for. anyone run into these issues?
  9. I really want to be city center since i am going myself. I want to be kinda close to a little bit of everything, but still safe. Any ideas?
  10. I applied to the NBV a while ago, hopefully it wont be too much longer, cause i am pretty much ready to go. I want to go to melbourne. do you know a good area near the major hospitals?
  11. I am canadian, and i am still unsure of which area i want to work in because i am still waiting to get registered. Any ideas on some popular areas?
  12. Hi, does anyone know what international nurses do for accomodation when they first get to australia? I know some employers offer residence style accomodation. I am going by myself so i dont need a house, i just wanted a small apartment but i didnt know how much i should arrange before i get there and what can wait until i get there. Has anyone had any experience going to melbourne by themselves in regard to accomadation options?
  13. Did anyone ever find out how many theory and clincal hours you need for registration in victoria australia.
  14. If you have to do the bridging program in australia before you get fully licensed do you get paid?
  15. Thanks for getting back to me. I am a canadian RN so i hope my creditials will be sufficient.
