How many guys in your class?

There's 28 total people in my class and two of us are guys and it's an ADN program. I'm 20 years old and the other guy is in his mid 40's. The school I go to is 100 years old and this is our nursing program's first year, and I've got a decent shot at being the first and only guy to graduate from the first class, if you catch my drift ;). Since I'm younger I kind of take a "brother" role to a lot of the girls in there, and I'm the one to make everyone laugh... My class is pretty cool because it's so small we're closer to one another.. A lot of us anyway.

Anyone else have any stories?

Hello, we have 20 in our LPN program and 12 in our RN program. No, I do not get the connection of the part about being 40 and not making it. Most of the males and females in our program over the age of 40 are extremely intelligent. In fact more younger students do not graduate. Sorry, I just don't make the connection.

Dabuggy, maybe you misunderstood what Scrubz was trying to say? How I read it, the other guy in his class probably isn't going to graduate, irrespective of his age. It just so happend that the other guy was in his mid-40s but he very well could have been any age. I may be wrong but I don't think that Scrubz was trying to start an argument for younger vs. older people and their success rates in nursing school.

class of 70 (about 60 now) for a BSN, with 7 men. Haven't lost any of 'em yet though it was close in Foundations of Maternal-Newborn Nursing...

What I said had nothing to do with age or anything like that. The other guy either failed our nursing fundamentals theory class or the lab part and will have to wait until next year to retake the class. Unless he starts doing better then I wouldn't doubt if he dropped nursing. I meant to take that sentence out of my post but I guess I forgot! Plus he never seemed very enthusiastic about nursing to begin with, but I don't know.

Yeah, I can see how you wouldn't get that just by me saying what I said, so sorry about that one!

Ok, Thank you for clarifying that. I stand corrected. That is why I answered your question with the#'s in the first sentence. There was something I guess I read into it about age. Sorry for the misinterpretation.

We started with about 75 in our class; 10 of those were men. I think we graduated 42; about 7 guys were left. I loved the guys in my class. They were so much fun, and very dedicated (I'm 45 and these guys were mostly my sons' ages. They were like my surrogate kids). In fact, a 30-something married father of 3 was class valedictorian. Also, most of the male nurses I worked with during clinicals were fantastic.

I graduated 3 years ago from an ADN program. We atarted with about 40 students (only 4 guys) and graduated with 29 (only 2 guys including me). The guy I graduated with was 41 years old and a great friend and excellent nurse. There was a broad age spectrum in my class. We were all very close and considered one another family. Some of us still stay in touch and go on vacations together when we can.

We have 31 in our ADN program, 5 men and so far we have not lost any students at all. One sememster to go!

Started with 31 in our class with one male and he didn't come back after summer. Don't know what happened to him.

I attend ADN program and we started out with 90 students of which 12 were males.

Now, last semester, I am one of 6 left.
