We had nine total clinical days this semester. Five of those were scheduled on the medical-surgical unit, and they were probably five of the longest days of my life (see previous posts). Four others were elective and I went from ER to ICU on those. Last semester there were around eight I think (7-9).
Each clinical day began this semester at 0630 and ended at 1430. Subtract lunch and our meetings at the beginning and ending of the "shift," and we didn't really have many hours in. I'm not complaining though since I hate med-surg.
I could do the ER and ICU again though. But thus far, if you assume we had 17 total clinical days and were alotted eight hours each day then that's still only 136 hours.
Next semester we'll have two days of clinical with one split between OB and Peds and the other for the less structured public/community health course.
Im in my 3rd year, and I have done over 1000 hours... still have psych, homecare, palliative/medical, public health and preceptorship to go.. (4 more semesters worth..)
PLUS, ESN hours are about 400 hours (but thats not part of my BSN program)
OH, and I am from Vancouver, BC. I go to the University of the Fraser Valley. I believe BCIT has the highest amount of hours in a BC nursing school and then UFV is to follow (where I go), but since the fast track 3 year programs have come out I am pretty sure they are about equal by now.

Hi I was wondering how many clinical hours students are suppose to get in a BSN program? Mine doesn't seem to be enough? Are people mainly getting med/surg? Thanks
