How many applicants are you "competing" against?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

At my small town school they test twice a year (1 day program & 1 evening). Acceptance into the nursing program is all based on your NLN score. The day program for this fall had their NLN test this past weekend and there were 104 people that tested. They choose 15 of the top in-district scores & 15 out of district scores to be in the program.

I was thinking the odds (15/104) aren't that great, but when you consider out of the 104 who knows how many are out of district applicants and I'm not competing against them.

So what are the odds at your school?

Mine were 120/900+

I am not sure how many students the school I applied to will take.

I asked when I called, and she said they received around 60 applications.

I'm thinking those odds are so bad, I am crossing my fingers though.

80 seats and 800 applicants!!

161 applicants for 54 seats! I am so worried, I don't kow what to do with myself! :uhoh3:

sorry to double post

Wow, I guess I shouldn't feel so bad - some of those odds are outrageous! The school I applied at has 50 slots per Fall and Spring semesters, and I've been told that around 400+ apply for each. *keeps her fingers crossed*

I wish there was more money for more instructors

We were told last weekend at Accepted Students Day that 2,000 applicants had been turned away..

and people wonder why there's a nursing shortage! :nono:

(edit: they accepted 150 for the program, if that helps as well)

double edit: The title of this thread made me think of something else..for those of you who don't get in, I HIGHLY recommend sending a letter asking them to reconsider. I'm someone who is not very competitive against other people, but HIGHLY competitive against myself. After I didn't get initially, I realized that when there are more than 2000 applying, you HAVE to be competitive, and toot your own horn. Write them, telling them why you deserve a spot instead of some of the others. It's not being mean, it's not being conceited, it's all the truth and it's showing them you have heart! Believe me. Good luck guys!!

My school has 40 seats a year with 300+ applicants. I feel optimistic about my odds. It seems that every year a lot of them drop out of the running to start a family or switch to the less competitive LPN program. I myself was unable to enter when I first wanted because of a pregnancy. So I feel that it will happen, maybe not as soon as I like, but it will happen.

My school has around 400 applicants for 60-80 seats (BSN) and about 200 applicants for 40 seats (ADN). I'm applying for Spring 2007 (BSN) so I won't find out if I get in or not till the middle of November!

I was told that the CC I applied to gets around 200 applications per year. The website says they accept 60 per year, bu I know that an instructor was added last year and they took 80 students.

I was also told (by one of the nursing instructors) that a lot of people apply who do not meet the general qualifications (minimum GPA, minimum ACT, minimum # of college credits) but apply in hopes that they will somehow get in anyway. They don't.
